Default Vacuum leak location identity

I have experienced a rasping sound during acceleration. I hooked up the smoke test machine this morning and found a leak in what appears to be an air line coming out of the throttle body elbow and going into the compartment that also contains the brake reservoir. I am speculating that this is something to do with the "air assist" version throttle body. It's not immediately apparent how this line connects and I'd rather not start messing with it to attempt a repair until I know what I'm dealing with.

The attached pictures show a photo of my inspection camera screen and the other is a direct picture of the location with the leaking connection about mid screen.

Anyone know how I should remedy this leak?

Part number C2S15816. Gets you a brass housing housing containing the "O" ring and a new collar for that vacuum pipe.

Remove the pipe, remove the collar, replace the "O" ring and put in the new collar.

Cheers,

Excellent, thank you! I will probably dab a little RTV on it to prevent leaking until I can get the proper parts in to fix it. Since access is limited, will I have to remove the throttle body to install the new housing and O-ring?

Thanks again.

Usually not, though if the throttle body is off it will be easier.
You get the housing, but you don't use it, just the ring and collar. The housing is actually the part that is pressed into the aluminum induction housing, you won't have to change that.

Good luck!

Last question Steve, I promise.

I put a new throttle body gasket on about 9 months ago. If I decide to remove it for ease of access, do I need a new $25 gasket or can I reuse the one on there.

I already ordered the kit you referenced (C2S15816); it'll be here early next week.

Thanks again.

People have reused the gasket, but you risk having an air leak as it is a crushable type.

Obviously the good tech in me is gonna tell you a new gasket is required.

The realist in me is gonna tell you that in this case, as long as the dark coating on the gasket, if any, is still intact, wipe it nice and clean and reinstall. The chances of a leak are slim. I have done that several times over the years. Just use some reasonable common sense. If damaged, chuck it.

Good luck!
