Default Valve Cover Gaskets

I was just wondering, when replacing valve cover gaskets on a 2000 XJ8, do you use any kind of sealer on them, such as indian head gasket sealant etc? or install them dry?

i believe a factory manual would say to put gasket sealant at two small spots on each side - i think it's towards the front of the car at the top and the bottom - I've put them in dry before and it seemed fine.

Come on down, JFT. I'll show you how the guards use to do it!

The service book says to put rtv sealant int two places on each cover. Hmm, thats where its leaking and I dont think they did that if they had these off before.

Then put the sealant on there. It is choice. I have not used it and never had a car come back leaking. Just make sure you clean off any old stuff.
