Wanted: ZF 5HP24 Transmission for my 2001
I've been looking around for a replacement trans for my 2001 XJ8 and so far haven't found anything reliable. Mine died with the miles right under 100,000, so I was hoping to find one rebuilt or with low miles.
Any leads or advice would be greatly appreciated. I would like to get her back on the road, she's a real beaut.

If money is not a big problem, the transmission in the following link has a 12 month/unlimited miles warranty and claims to be rebuilt to include upgrades for all the known weaknesses of the original units.

If you love the car then a good transmission is worth the money. Think of joy of ownership, not re-sale value. Don't get me wrong, I understand the hesitation to spend more on a car than it's worth. If you are planning to keep it and drive it though, you will be hard pressed to find a nicer car for the money, despite disappointing resale value.
When I started looking at Jaguars as a hobby instead of an investment I started enjoying them more. I know guys who spend more traveling around to play golf than I spend keeping up my cars. It's a good hobby.

When people say the drum goes, they actually only speak half the issue.
With agr, the main pressure valve wears it's cylinder out. It is the pressure valve that then kill the A drum by allowing too much pressure into the clutch pack. This in turn will cause the A drum clip to be under so much pressure, that it will crack the A drum in the areas where the clip sits.
This will, over time, be okay until one day it cracks off and you are then stuck with any forward motion until the tranny recognizes it and put you in fail Safe mode.
IF your A drum is dead, then you can replace it either with a normal one (like I did) or with an upgraded one. BUT without changingcthe Main pressure valve, you'll have the same problem, no matter if with or without uprated reinforced drum. Both come together. The A drum crack is a symptome, not a cause.
And below is a picture of a damaged drum...
