Default Wanting a killer tune for a decent price?

Ok guys got sick and tired of looking for a tune and seeing there wasnt much out there. I have done alot of research on the subject and realised there was only one thing for me to do, call KURT! Who is kurt you may ask well if you are part of Fords SVT team, kurt is one of the head tuners, if you know audi's by chance and know vast or jhm performance, tuners of the worlds fastest B5 and B6 audis, kurt is their head tuner as well.

Before I came over to jags I was an audi guy and had a A6 4.2 and then a B6 4.2 S4. Kurt is amazing he cracked the audi code and tuned them better than anyone even the guys overseas were requesting his help. So who better than him to do my Jag. I contacted him and he is willing to do the jags as well. I just have to send him a 99 ECU so he can crack the code and go over everything. He also said that there is ALOT left in the tune an feels he can get alot more power safely, and better driveability. I am also going to send him a TCU to see what he can do with that as well since he did my audis tcu and is was amazing the difference in shiftin speed.

I told him that alot of guys are wanting a tune on the boards and he would be willing to do yours as well and all future updates would be cheap. I think he said 4 to 500 for the intial tune custom tailored to upgrades you have and then if you change anything for like 50 he will mod it for you. Basic things will be better timing, better air fuel being that mine was dynoed and was down to 10 to 1 round 4500 and kept going lower till readline way to low and theres 20 to 30 rwhp just getting the AFR right and it would still be perfectly safe, taking out the speed limiter, quicker response, among other things.

If interested after he does mine I will be doing a back to back dyno test only change will be swapping one ecu for another. Same day, same dyno, same strap down, and will try and keep temps the same as well. I have seen what this guy can do and on my NA 4.2 S4 I gained nearly 34 rwhp and 40 rwtq not to mention the car responded much quicker and was more responsive and better on gas believe it or not. That was on a car that tuned aggressive from the factory and natually aspirated, I cant wait to see what he can do with a car thats tuned for a grandma from the factory (our XJRs) with forced induction.

If you are game for a killer tune post up so I can show him that we want it and the best thing no shipping your ecu overseas it would take about 2 to 3 days to get your ecu back once sent out.

Had the document already, but found now also the link again on the net for easy download:

Notice the words “shift timings as low as 0,2 seconds”, here is their website, am curious what they can do to:

"builderbill" is a good search term, he is a force to be reckoned with in the NAG1 world. There is also a guy in the w210 section of benzworld that is held in high regard by the locals. He is the source of the documentation on the Valvoline Maxlife approval. And finally, one specific person at the sprinter forum. All of these guys get elbow deep into the transmissions. For example as opposed to the sealed for life litany you get here, the sprinter guys routinely take the solenoids out and clean the magnetized steel debris out of the bores on every fluid change.

It's a pretty interesting gearbox in its capabilities/tunabilities the more I learn about it, and it will hopefully be only a matter of time (am waiting already some years) before someone can make good tunes for the Jaguar TCM.

@XJR-0220,
I know from someone that made his own tools to get into the EGS51 (our TCM) that ByteShooter would also work. But I have no idea if that will hellp in cracking it, would guess probably that Kurt already know this, only hope it helps.

Ok just got off the phone with Kurt he says TCU is a go and should be easy to work out the bugs and improve the trans tune by leaps and bounds. The ECU is a go and I will be sending him out one asap as well as a TCU. I am being the guine pig here but after what he said I am confident this should see between 30-50 rwhp. He says he did an 01 and 03 a few years ago and got 42 rwhp on one and 51 rwhp on the other. He says hes got most of the data still and should be no prob to do the earlier ones as well. He just wants to look them over to make sure there is no differences.

Eurotek in my book SUCKS, are RUDE, very unfriendly, difficult to work with when I have tried talking to them, and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to expensive!!!!!! Use them if you want subpar results and bad customer service! But thats just my opinion some have enjoyed their work.

Like I said most people arent willing to put the time into doing a proper tune and spending hours working over the data to find every last HP avaliable safely. Kurt is a nut he loves going through data finding everything he can do I acually went through 12 different improved versions of the S4 chip and it just got better and better sometimes it was a step backward but most the time he found more and this was after other tuners woulda been happy with the initial results. I am very excited to see what we can get together out of our stock blower cars. He is also going to work on some cheaper catted downpipes for our cars as well. I would like to get a set of 200 cell 2.5 stainless downpipes for around 600.

Adam, I would grab that engine . . . and transmission quick before thinking about tuning.

We're talking , it will all come down to price.

I'm trying to weight the options and before anything I need to tear that motor apart more. I talked to my local machine shop and they can turn the crank for me for about $150. Looks like oversize bearing are also available for a reasonable price, way cheaper than Jaguar. I'm also considering a 4.2. I'm gonna try to see what the service records were on the car next week and take the valve covers off to inspect the tensioners.

I'm not afraid of tearing into things and I'm quite good at sourcing unsourcable parts

Here's a couple of writeups I did on other forums:

PS. Sorry for the hijack
