Question Welding on 2000 xj8

My jack slipped when changing a tire on the soft shoulder of the road and put a small hole in floor where there was some rot so I need to weld a patch . so my question is what is the safe procedure when welding so I do not screw up the electronics thanks in advance jrb53

disconnect the battery and make sure you're clear of any wiring looms, they run along the trans tunnel and along the bottom of the sills on each side internally behind the carpet.

Along with disconnecting the battery you need to make sure the welding ground is as close to the area where your welding as possible. You don't want to have the ground where the circuit will transit anything that has bearings. The current flow will damage them.
