Default What is this compartment?

In the lower left of this photo, what is the covered compartment? And, should it have weatherstripping around it like the similar area on the other side of the throttle body?

If I remember correctly, it might be for the toolkit. You DO have a toolkit, don't you? :-)

I've always wondered what this is for as well.

Maybe it is for tools?

You could keep some beer in there. The Brits like it warm anyway.

As other have suggested - it's for the toolkit:

As far as I can recall, there was no weatherstrip.

It's too bad the toolkit doesn't include some of those special tools that are handy or necessary for working on these cars. Now THAT would be a plus!

I don't think we are supplied with those in the USA, never seen one. (But I want one now, lol!)

I am going to have to make up a nice little foam lined aluminum case to go in there!

I remember the kit in my MKII had a few spanners, a grease gun, a brake bleed tube and a gauge for setting the cam timing.

there is supposed to be a weather strip around the panel that contains the toolkit compartment, see pic.

Here's a toolkit on england's ebay:

Yes, that's they way I thought it should be. Thanks for clearing that up. Now I have to find the weatherstripping. I'd like to find the toolkit closer to home, too.

Does anyone have any idea how I can find that part -- the weatherstripping that goes around the toolkit box? Part # or name?

Apologies - I misunderstood the question. I thought you were asking if there's was a weatherstrip around the toolbox lid and not about the edge trim on the plastic cover panel.

I rarely carried the toolkit in my XJ8L. It would get covered in dust and grit because the compartment isn't effectively sealed.

Graham -- sorry for not being clear, thanks for the clarification. Do you know where I might find that piece of weatherstripping?

Mike,

You're a lot clearer than the Parts Manual! I've eventually found the right item:

JAGUAR X308 - Under Bonnet Covers.pdf

Unfortunately the bulkhead cover is only listed as a complete component and we all know what Jaguar are likely to charge for this!

Over here (England) I'd just go to one of the specialist Jaguar breakers who would supply the edge trim separately. If you can't source one in the US, I can give you some UK contacts.

I wish I knew where there was a local junk yard -- maybe I'd get lucky!

Thanks Graham for the info.

Thanks for the information, this thread led me directly to another U.K. E-Bay Item which I snapped up.
