bdboyle resurfaces w/ his excellent machines, nice !
Oh, I'm lurking most of the time; busy doing my road warrior impression, so I'm either in airports, airplanes, or convincing clients that we have the technology...
Thanks for the compliment...here's some more Jag ****:
The XJR was feeling a little left out...so spent some time freshening up the interior....
I don't know, I have seen them so many times ... and still it is every time amazing to see how good a x308 interior looks like, especially if well maintained.
Not many cars can compete, not even nowadays.

Well..there is some wear (dash cover warped from the sun around the top demister vent on passenger side...), and the typical driver seat bolster surface cracks, worn coating, and such. I keep going at the seats with the rejuvenator oil from Leatherique; I know that it's the surface that's cracked and worn, but, like the lines around the corners of your eyes...those are honorably gained and marks of graceful aging while enjoying the journey.
The XJR is going in for paint and door ding rectification via PDR next month...then the tensioners and cam chains. The decision now is which one (the XJ8 or the XJR) will be offered for sale. Driveway getting crowded...and SWMBO says 'one has to go...'.
While getting pizza for my lieutenant, the driver's front door latch cable broke, from the latch side jambing it. The passenger side was already broken for some time so imagine how classy it looks entering and exiting my beauty "Dukes of Hazzard" style. Anyway, I had already ordered and received the new cables, for only $66 from XK's unlimited. Took about 10 minutes to get the door panel off, another 10 or so disconnecting the cable properly and about 15 min to reinstall the cable. All in, I finished both front doors in under and hour and twenty minutes. I've attached the pics of the cables...they were done! Just a word of advice...when reinstalling the door panel pay extra attention to the fasteners because if they aren't lined up, they will break and leave a loose door panel.
Gotta love waking up to car parts from around the globe ! T-stat housing kit, chrome mirror & door handle covers, rear shock foam rings & differential oil.
just blows me away how easy these cars are to work on!!
They were practically hand built on the production line, using traditional methods. I love how it's possible to have an entire interior stripped out inside of 2 hours if you're taking it easy.
I took mine out to run a few messages yesterday, catching a glimpse of the car in shop windows was nice. I had a guy in a new XF trying to coax me into a race, but I've got nothing to prove so I let him rip off up the street whilst I calmly went about my business.

Whilst you say that, Stu, any tip on how to get the dashboard "tightend up" again? Mine seemed a bit loose last time I drove it...

Open the front doors, and either end of the dashboard there are oval shaped covers. Pop them off and there are nuts visible. Slacken them off and whilst someone or something pushes hard against the dash, tighten them up. Hopefully this will solve it.
Other places that cause dash rattles are the glovebox not being fitted tightly, and loose veneers where they haven't seated in their slots.
I've tried removing the glove pocket and the veeners. I have a "nasty" rattle on idle which sounds so far away but is yet so near... And then over bumps some louder rattles. Oh, and the rear bushes from the rear shock absorbers...
Changed oil and filter today.. thought it was time when the color of the oil was about to get the same color as the tyres.. and while i was crawling under the car i also installed the missing "airscoop" for the generator cooling inlet.. no wonder they go missing.. you have to remove it every time you replace the oil filter..
While still on the floor.. i put in new plastic rivets instead of the ones that have gone missing from the big plastic tray under the front bumper... not an ideal design really.. its weak and bits and pieces tend to fall of the car with age... the airguides/pipes that lead air to the fwd brakedisks is a good example i beleive..
... took take it out for a little "test drive after the oil change" when i was done .. had to check and ponder over my vibration issues.. at exactly 90kmh i get a small vibration that kind of shaking the whole car... dissapear at abbout 110 kmh .. instead i get a low humming noice when applying power.. if i let go.... gone...
Its first wheelbearing.. and then if i get the time.. the propshaft rubber disk.. and perhaps the supportbearing too... hmm
