What did you do to your X308 Today?

[QUOTE=Stu 1986;1725951]Last weekend we went out for the day and used the XJ, went to a few different places. I'm always amused at how many looks and glances a well looked after X308 can get from people. I parked in several different places and saw people stopping to look at the car a couple of times......>.>>>>>

It was funny last week. I was driving along the road on my way home one evening and as I was passing through a village I saw they had a "Cars & Coffee" type event at the village pub. There were quite a few tasty machines there and there were marshals on the gate directing the show cars one way and the non show cars to a rear car park. I slowed down because the Vauxhall Cresta in front of me was turning into the show, and the marshal thought I was coming in too and stopped the traffic for me. I wound my window down and explained I wasn't coming in, and he said I really should come back one week because my car is beautiful and more than welcome. Made me smile.

Had to adapt the exhaust hangers- for my 15 HU conversion. The jury rig solution didn't last: The X300 rear subframe brace plate for the offset diff nose also has the exhaust hanger bushes in a different location to the X308.
I had to get the exhaust hangers of my X308 exhaust cut and shut to fit.
Now the car drives without incident with the torsen LSD and the new ratio.
No vehicle speed flags came up (P1720) so the 3.07 ratio vs the stock 3.05/3.06 works.
As the 75% locking torsen is a road race/competition unit the diff will groan a little on corners.
I hope to use the car as a daily driver now- will report how it goes.

Waiting on the only local transmission shop I trust to have an opening, so I can get diagnostics performed on my new nemesis "gear box fault" P1722.
It figures this would happen right after I addressed the cosmetics, I had faith I had all the known "hot spots" taken care of. The PO had done all timing elements & the a-drum, but the mystery lies in that I'm not sure if when the a-drum was done if it was a new component or used. PO is now deceased so that mystery goes to the grave with him lol.
In the last 5 weeks I've done paint,knock sensors,front suspension,t-stat housing & pipes,ABS solder etc.
Hopefully the transmission trauma is minor & if it was the drum again the car was only driven maybe 500 yards/2-3 minutes afterwards.
The Saga Continues,

ALWAYS change the pressure regulator valve when you do the A drum. It is like with the chains. Don'r just do the top tensioners. Do the lot.

I'm not sure what it is as of now, it fires up w/ no fault codes or lights. I'll wait for the transmission shop to render a verdict. Not driving it until it's had diagnostics though. One thing of note I didn't get the typical loud "bang or clang" when my ordeal happened.
Also sucks that I sold the Maserati as I felt my Jaguar was ready for prime time action, so now I'm down to driving my little Nissan Sentra daily , oh what a difference lol.

Mine didn't bang or clang when it died. I only noticed it had died as I put the shifter into N and still could drive on N. After putting it into D again I had no traction. Otherwise nothing to be heard, smelt or felt. It just died in a jam. The only thing I had noticed was it started to shift a little slower...

Put new Stoptech rotors and pads on the front of the 100. Got them at a steal of a deal through work and was able to do the job for less than $500 CAD including labour. Still chasing ghosts trying to figure out my fuel filling issue. Replaced both charcoal canisters twice, the CVV valve once, blew out the line between the two charcoal canisters..still can't get more than 1/2 tank in it before it shuts off. Only thing that seems to have any effect is disconnecting the entire charcoal system entirely, which of course just won't do. T-minus 3 weeks til we embark on the 1400km journey back to school together on the east coast. We'll see how the 100 likes the Thule roof rack and cargo carrier. Stay tuned..

tranny repair
A friend of mine just had a tranny repair on his XK8. A lot of shops wouldn't touch it. Jaguar/Mercedes wanted 9K, he found a local shop that did it for 6.5K. Be prepared to sell your first born to pay for a tranny rebuild.

abultions
Gave MomsCat a bath, she sure looks pretty. Continued my pursuit of a flaky ground some place in the car. In forty years of working in long range radar, the one issue that drove techs and engineers to contemplate Hari-Kari was an intermittent ground problem. Of course new tech with isolated digital grounds and analog grounds did nothing to improve the situation.

Changed trans fluid, recharged AC, oil change with 5W-50 red line synthetic. New Michelin pilot super sports. I can no longer break traction- a combination of the michelins and the new Torsen LSD. Washed and waxed car and changed light bulbs. This will be my daily summer driver. Welcome relief over my TERRIBLE Escalade!

The "incorrect gear ratio" fault haunted me for months!!!! Gotta love a whiney diff Glad your back in action
#2298
Thanks!
The incorrect gear ratio code doesn't flag- which I'm happy about.
I also got rid of the whine/groan on corners using a friction modifier in the diff lube.
Sorted!
