Did a few things today... Fitted my old winter tires again. My tyre dealer cyn't get me the ones I need at the momemt so one more season out of these old tires...

Also had another alignment done, after the car all of a sudden started hopping to the right when going over a manhole. Turns out, the right hand side had somehow adjusted itself. It was all tight etc. but it had loosened... No idea...

Finally had a 'pre-TÜV' done to make sure my car wouldn't fail. Apart from a new rust spot (probably bottomed out somewhere) and a hole about the size of a €2 coin (about 2.5x2.5cm/1x1") the under carriage is very tidy. Wouldn't expect that for an old Jag which has had salt, rain, more salt, more rain and then a lot more salt for 21 years... Brakes work. Emissions are spot on. No leaks. Steering is perfect.

Maybe I should dare at the end of February... 4 months over due

I rendered mine undriveable! Not on purpose, but it seems that my recent launching into a snowy ditch also played havoc with the wheel bearings that I had just replaced last April. I drove it up to my boat Sat, about 2 hours each way. Drive up was uneventful. However, on the way back, I noticed that it started groaning a little loud on right hand curves. By the time I got halfway home, it had graduated to a light grinding. And by the time I got to my driveway, it was a major crunching sound from the right front side. And of course, it's a muddy driveway so I can't get it jacked up yet. I need to pull the front wheels, and hubs and take them with me to press new bearings in again and see how the rest of the components are looking. I don't dare move it until then, sadly.

Removed the supercharger today to replace the snout bearings and rear needle bearings. Had a cockup using a slightly too large socket to press out the internal drive gear which got stuck inside it. Didn't think much of it at the time but on reassembly i found the internal diameter has been slightly enlarged so it wont fit snug onto the input shaft any more

If anybody has a spare one you would make my day..

Finally reassembled my car completely after starting the big front subframe job I've been putting off forever.

Parts done includes:
front subframe rearward bushings (the round ones)
motor mount x2
vee mount - driver's side
front lower rearward control arm (with ball joint and bushing) - both sides
driver's upper ball joint

It seemed to help a lot. No longer getting the front end unsettled/shuddering feeling it was getting before when going over big bumps. And maybe more importantly, it finally drives straight all the time, instead of sometimes pulling to the side and sometimes driving straight!

Now I just need to do an alignment, and replace the front caliper I'm suspecting of sticking/leaking (replacement on order), replace or repair the center muffler which is rattling and much more noticeable with the motor mounts having quieted everything else, and pull my aux heater pump to do brushes. The front end work has taken a big bite out of my jag to-do list.

I replaced the V8 emblems on the window pillars with IMO tasteful and good quality Jaguar emblems on my 2000 XJR. I sourced them from EBay for about $26.00 U.S dollars.

certainly. The flat self-adhesive emblems will cover small depressions on pillar left over by the V8 male protrusions. Overall, a subtle and elegant alternative. Cheers, Juan Manuel

This weekend's plan :

Serpentine tensioner, pulley & belt to eradicate the sporadic noise on cold start-ups
J-Gate,sport & cruise lights replaced
Pressure test to find a small coolant loss every 500 miles or so
Investigate rear suspension to pinpoint my last noise

Nothing too drastic & the car's running, riding superbly, now I can address the minor things that irk me IE out interior lights & cabin noises lol.

Today, I decided to top up the fuel tanks... LPG was nearly empty. Petrol was according to the gauge just a mm below the full mark. Turns out, the gauge was lieing...

Let's see who can find the fault... Btw., I tanked up last Friday (26th of January, both tanks!) and both were full to the brim!

Installed carbon fiber mirror caps on my 2000 XJR. Very good quality and is a perfect fit. I believe they enhance the exterior in a subtle, unique and dramatic way elevating the already beautiful looks.

$140.00 US dollars apprx.

There is a specific fuel tank cleaner other then a engine cleaner to be put in the tank , other then that the sender has a ground terminal nearby . Not to be confused with a shell of the tank cleaner but one to remove the biological growth on the sender wiper . Used a Biobore in the airlines but then they worked on a variable capacitance design that would get fouled .

Thanks for the tip but I prefer a pessimistic gauge to an optimistic or precise one...

Got an alignment done after the big subframe job... it feels much better now, wheels must have been toed out before since it didn't like to stay on center/return to center right after the subframe work, now that feels as it should... but it still pulls to one side. Only sometimes. This time the alignment was done at a Jag-experienced shop, they said everything was fine on the alignment machine but they still noticed the pull while test driving. And it might be in my head but it almost feels like the shudder over big bumps which was addressed by my work is slowly working its way back the more I drive it.

Two weeks worth of free time and having spent more than initially planned, and it feels like I've accomplished nothing. Hopefully the jag shop was right in that there's a defective tire, and I can get the tires replaced under warranty.

Same here. My steering column and steering rack were both replaced and I still have some vague'ness in the steering. The knocking sound is also still there. So, I'll be doing full wishbone overhaul and spring and ball joints and shocks and wheel bearings and brakes.

Dunno what else I can replace... Everything is basically new.

Apparently some kind of power &/or magnetic surge hit near my car lol. Every single one of my USB drives in there are now toast. I was thinking my head unit's USB port had died, but none of the drives work on any device.

I got sick of not being able to drive it, so I ordered another hub assembly from e-bay. I have a new bearing sitting on my desk but I've had horrible weather and no easy way to get it to the garage to try to press out the old and in the new. So I'm going to swap out the assembly in the snowy driveway, and then take my time to swap them in the old assembly.

Before it's suggested that I just press the bearing into the replacement assembly - I'd rather get the car back on it's feet, even if the replacement is on a used bearing with who knows how long left in it. Otherwise there's always the slim chance of buggering up the bearing replacement, and then the car stays out of commission even longer. The left side, I'll have to do soon too, but I'm hoping that holds out for a couple weeks before it goes kablooey too.
