Hi Eric, tried the wheels on as they are, they went on but as you stated they were tight. The clearance at the top seemed OK, though I didn't want to go out on a road test and risk running them not being able to take them back to supplier.
They only just cleared the arch at the back and front, by about 2.5cm steering ahead, but 1cm+ on steering lock.. too close for comfort.
Although they went on and cleared, the front of the car was sat well high. Tested against the 16" on one side and 19" on the other, there was 2" or more difference in height.
Off to try and get them changed for the 245/40s, wish me luck.
Many thanks for the warning before I fitted to the car..
Paul
Nope. Stock mounts, 18 years old. Never had an issue with Jag URO parts. BMW yeah but Benz, Audi and Jag they have been good to me. I asked the guy I sold my 98 XJR to about 7 years ago now if they were still good. He said he goes to the drag strip every month and has yet to have any issues.
Story is i got on the car really hard for the first time ever last week. Lit the Michelins all the way till 3rd gear. next day the car was vibrating and i thought "Hmm, wonder if the engine mounts are going out". Latter that day I had to pull out in traffic and when I let off I heard a loud "thud". Brought it back to my shop, popped the hood, loaded the engine and saw it lift higher than the hood if it were closed! Put it up in the air and the driver side mount was laying against the steering joint. I cant believe I didnt hurt anything. So 90 minutes latter we had new ones in and shes as happy as can be.
Turned out I was very lucky again in returning the tires I had wrong! I took back the 255/45/19s, and replaced them with the 255/35/19s which I understand were original fitment? The added bonus was the tires I had on hadn't even been put on the car (still had the manufacturers sticker on them) so the guy was happy to change the tires for the correct size with no charge.
Big thanks to ericjansen for his timely intervention, as usual, he was spot on with his advice. and potentially saved me a fortune.

You will be fine; your car will have the same wheel / tires as the XJR100 was fitted with, a lot of people here will envy you, including me ...
Great it worked out fine.

My overhead console odyssey is still ongoing lol. So after switching my old good light module to the newer wood unit the screw tabs broke but the middle screws were seemingly enough to hold it. Well it's too loose apparently as I'm getting erratic light performance & buttons have too much play/not pressed tight enough to module. Of course the wood unit's light panel has perfect screw mounts but also has 2 out sockets so no good. I'm nearly tempted to bust out the soldering iron & take the donor module apart & try to repair the 2 bad sockets. My solder skills are primitive novice for sure lol.
I see a few light modules on e-Bay for sale w/ perfect screw mounts but no one has tested the damn lights ?! What's the point of selling a lighting module if you're unsure the lights actually work ?! Mind you my overhead console is still mounted w/ the engine bulkhead cover fastener lol.

Fitted Cruise Control. My 1998 is the early vacuum type operated Cruise Control, but couldn't find much info on how/where all the vac pipes went. Got the information off the guy who removed it from donor vehicle.
Just in case it helps someone else, I drew a small diagram..
I already had the switches from a previously fitted 'part wood' steering wheel, the brake switch came with the solenoids, vac canisters, and vac pipes.
The connections to the solenoids were already there on the right false bulkhead next to the brake servo (RHD), the connections are color coded to the solenoids.
Hardest part was fitting the brake switch, the wires were already there for that as well!
Thanks ! BRG's so multi-faceted depending on the lighting. I get a myriad of greens in bright/direct natural light. Dusk & night are my favs though she goes molten black.
Also getting my nemesis/3rd brake light installed tomm. morning we should be sitting pretty for the upcoming holiday !

Took J-gate assembly apart and put it back together. That's because, upon stopping to park and momentarily forgetting about J-gate configuration I shifted into 2 from Drive, possibly more quickly than I should have. Then it wouldn't go into or past Drive. No clue why. Also that meant I couldn't get key out. Disconnected battery, still wouldn't budge but at least got key out. Took the top off the J-gate and was able to get the thing back into Park. Reassembly, reconnect battery, start, drive and shift no problems. Very nicely in fact. Sigh. This has given me grief before so I must remind myself to use brake and not use gears unless going down a steep grade, and even then make the manual shifts very gently.
