Searched around for a better alternative to just dropping in another poor sounding 6x9 "subwoofer". Couldn't find anything I liked so made my own.
This is available as a drop in piece from a stereo shop I'm affiliated with using a 8" driver. I don't know what this forum's rules are on selling stuff so I didn't make this any type sales ad.

I love it! Dumb question, is it a shallow mount sub? Definitely PM me with pricing, please.

the driver is an 8in audiofrog it is sort of a shallow mount design as it does not have a deep cone but it does have a somewhat deep magnet. This was needed to fit the 6x9 Hole and not have the whole unit sticking up high off the deck. It still puts out way more than any 6 X 9 speaker you could fit in there.

PM sent

Interesting! Audiofrog make great speakers, but as still relatively unknown outside audio circles, so great to see one here

The original factory 6x9 has an unusual dual voicecoil arrangement, where there is a set of wires from both the left and right channels that both feed the one speaker. How did you get around this with the new one? Assuming you just took a feed from one side only?

The Audiofrog sub is also a dual voicecoil so it's PnP. Works great with the OE amp.

Because the factory sub is 8 ohm and the audiofrog is 2 ohm, is that going to cause any issues?

Excellent question....
The factory 6x9 tests out at 4-5ohms per channel. When I installed the Audiofrog 8 months ago we figured we'd just wlsee what happens and I can tell you irhe factory amp is still pushing it just fine. I listen to my radio pretty loud with the windows down and it has never cut out in any way no matter the music genre. I was ready to replace the amp with something bigger which is why we didn't care if something bad happened but the something bad never happened. It was a test for sure.
The car in the pictures I posted is the 3rd one that has been installed and none of us have had any issues which is why I suggested it's PnP at this point.

After apparently compromising my w/s squirter feed at the cowl with an ice scraper I didn't think I'd find a replacement without buying an entire cowl cover. In true over engineering fashion I found a RC plane fuel fitting that screws in nicely if you drill a hole where the old nipple was.

Finally got the freshly powder coated front suspension components loaded with Lemförder ball joints, SKF wheel bearings and Üro bushings. I drilled and tapped the knuckles for the Brembo brakes which will go on right after the wheel alignment. New sport Bilstein ACD shocks and Moog sway bar end links are on today as well.

Which Brembos are a match up, the R1 units? I'm working on adapters to use the x350 R calipers when I get a chance to scan the knuckle. Maybe I should do that today....

The Brembos I have are for the X308 R1’s. I got a front and rear set for $605 from eBay. There’s one other forum member that has a good used set for sale that’s not even reconditioned for like $1500 just for the calipers. People must think ounce for ounce it’s gold pricing for everything these days.

The Brembos for the X350’s seem a lot bigger to me. I think it would be hard pressed for 19’s to clear the X350 Brembos.

they are the same size, they obviously need to fit under zeus wheels. i can check but they probably even clear under dynamics too

my front set is probably going straight to the trash can when i get around to putting the later R dual pistons. if you can adapt them cheaply you’ve got some nice eye candy i guess

Default Not what i did TO the X308 as FOR the X308

Firstly apologies, I realise this may not appear to be X308 related, but it is.

I noticed a recent thread about Powder Coating, something I've been interested in doing to various parts on the X308. I saw an article on DIY Powder Coating, and decided to build my own Powder Coating Oven:

I got a 2nd hand oven off ebay...

Basic 2 Door Oven

Then I took the sides and back off, took pictures of the wiring and disconnected them. Then removed the upper and lower compartments, romoved the bottom part of the Top Toaster oven, and the top part of the Bottom Large Roasting oven. Fit all back together sealing the top and bottom pans, and the 2 doors, and fitted 2 Rods in the Top to hang parts off.

Now to check if it works!

Reconnected the wiring and packed sides and back with insulation, refitted the sides and back panels.. switched it on...

Fired up fine and the heating elements glowed nicely

I had also fitted an internal Temp Guage

460 degrees F

Finally, fitted some clasps to make sure both the doors were well sealed

Now to try coating car parts

The whole thing, including the 2nd hand oven off ebay, cost me less than £60, just under $80

Coated a wheel off the kid's BMX and it turned out superb, unbelievable finish.

I know it's not actual work done on the X308 itself, but it will save me a packet on the work it will 'do' on the X308!
Paul

That's looks great, Paul. What a super idea which has probably paid for itself in one job!

When can I bring over my cam covers to be power coated?

Does making early arrangements for insuring an '01 XJR to be picked up during the first week in May for the drive home count under "what did you do to your x-308 today?"?

For what it's worth, the car is being bought sight unseen from a friend and will be the third time we have done this. Both previous trips were for Series III VDP's, one of which remained a daily driver for 15 years until this past January while the other enjoys semi-retirement during the winter.

The drive home will be leisurely (it's about 15 1/2 hours and 1,250 km) to take advantage of the time of the year and the scenery as well as the car. Both previous trips in the VDP's were exceptional for their flawless behavior and we expect no less from the XJR.

I also spent too much time here once again today and wonder whether that counts?

Got the exhaust in today, Mina gallery.

Also fixed the broken glove box damper and changed the fog lights out to yellow led.

I just bought the $5 ebay Ford clones and reprogrammed them. Worked great for a while until all 4 windows started rolling down on their own some months later. I just did the reboot procedure to see if that helps and gave the car a quick wash to get the pollen off today. Yesterday I replaced one rear shock. The upper bushing was MIA. I still need to do the other side but ordered some upper spring insulators as well. Gonna give my sore muscles a chance to heal.

Someday in the near future, I gonna give some Jaguar aficionado a chance to own this 2002 XJR.

Please post a sound vid! I can't find any good vids of these mufflers. They do look great.
