What did you do to your X308 Today?

I actually drove my XJ8 -- it's been resting while I put miles on my S-Type!
I really need to figure out how to get the bolt out of the floor that holds the back of the driver's seat rail to the floor -- I burnt up my drill using an extractor set that drills a hole in the bolt head and then using a different bit you reverse your drill and it's supposed to back it out but when I saw smoke coming out of the drill I quit! LOL

Removed the NAV, and replaced the rear view mirror
When I got the car, it came with this rather ugly NAV and TV screen.
Removing it, the reason was quite obvious why they added it.
Going minimalistic, I removed everything, and replaced the mirror. Might send the old one to the USA for repair. Just in case...
And the bear?
Moved 3 continents in the last 20 years, deserved the move from A Jeep Grand Cherokee in Shanghai to the XJ in Taiwan.

Restricted Performance
Yesterday, I took the XJR to the dealer with the "Restricted Performance" message.
Codes:
300 multi cylinder miss
302
306
1316
356
455
100 MAF sensor influx voltage
My regular mechanic lacks the software to properly diagnose the system, so off it goes to the dealer. As I suspected, codes only point the way to repairs, not a parts list.
Bottom line:
#6 coil bad
spark plug change out
asst gaskets & labor - $1400.
I briefly played with the idea of changing out the coils, and I noticed the coils were $160 at the dealers and $30 - $50 on eBay. Is there any difference?
At $160 a crack, I opted out of changing them.
Had better days I guess.

I wouldn't pay the dealer that kind of money for the coil, it would be worth getting one off ebay for much less. This is my opinion -- if you spend $30 on a coil (as long as it's the right part!) and it doesn't work, all you did was spend $30! Before you do that, you could also check Welsh and some other suppliers to see if you could get an OEM part for less than the dealer charges.
Good luck.
BTW did the dealer charge you for the diagnosis? The dealer here charges $189 just to drop the car off! Also, I see you're in Wisconsin, what dealer did you go to? I have a place in Madison and have been to the Jaguar dealer on the beltline - they seem to be a typical dealership - $120/hr bench rate, high estimates for time and parts.

passenger side mirror
the passenger side mirror seem to have been broken and mended prior to the purchase. the internal brackets exposed the adhesive used to hold the mirror in place prior to purchase. I do not believe the dealer had a hand in this and do not hold him accountable. He has, however, agreed to assist in the replacement of the mirror assembly. I have submitted my request times two days and have yet to receive a response. I am a bit worried by this. But, after the majority of my life in the Army, I learned to make do and mend things to almost new conditions. as of now, the mirror works properly and I am pleased with that. But, there is a chance that the is she I will arise once more and I am hoping the replacement (eBay) housing will remedy the issue completely.

I decided to paint the license plate holder to match the color of the car. Ordered the correct paint to match, worked out well. I didn't want the front holder and plate on there anyway, but laws require it on there. Now it seems to blend in, and not stand out so much. My color is topaz, wondering if it just works well with my color, might work well with other colors as well. I thought I would try it, and it worked, always can go back to black frame if it didn't right.

Eventually I'll swap it out for a 'European style' licence place, they're a lot wider and a bit shorter, so should fit on the bumper better, and cover the old mounting holes.
The big question is whether I should get a personalised plate at the same time. They're horrifically expensive over here. (as is everything...)
This was one option, which I'm sure everyone will agree sums up Jaguar ownership quite well...

I bought my '99 XJ8 a week ago (I'm loving this car) and changed the oil today just to be sure. I also ordered front brake pads and rotors since it's got a little shudder when braking.
Since TX has the ridiculous front plate law, I've got a Skene plate holder on the way, as well. No way am I drilling holes in the front of this car if I can avoid it.

Had to google that to work out what you were talking about...
That looks bloody nice though! Wonder if I could make up something similar myself...

Hy
Today I fix my ABS problem by replacing the left rear hub carrier (it was installed an X300 hub carrier and the ABS sensor was not in the right position) I have clean the ventilation system with an aerosol solution. Tomorrow i will see the result.
In the future i must change the upper tensioner, rear diff oil, gearbox filter and oil, right exhaust flexible coupling, supercharger oil.

One step forward
I replaced my SCM today with a nice used unit. Now i have more functionality and am confident i can fix the other issues. OK maybe not confident but optimistic. I have been trying to program my remote since the replacement but as somebody thankfully pointed out that you can't program a remote while in valet mode. Now i'm off to figure out how to get my baby out of valet mode. Thanks again to all.
