What did you do to your X308 Today?

I finished replacing my front shock bushings.
See my thread with pics here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...2/#post1080838
I also added an "R" medallion to the circular area on top of the inter-coolers. There was a circular depression in that area that looks like it was made for the medallion I installed.

Dreamed a bit ...
Dreamed about buying this one, while on a business trip in the middle of the island.
For sale, looking largely mistreated, standing on the side of the road.
To show her displeasure, the XJ threw me an ABS code on the way back, the first in a long time.
Guess she was not happy about this romance ...

I love the 6 litre V12....they worked out all the bugs and are a true classic.

I had a clunk in the front. I'd feel it when I went slowly over uneven surfaces in a parking lot and when going over speed bumps, especially if one wheel went over the speed bump before the other wheel. The rocking back and forth motion caused the clunk and I could feel it in the steering. It's been driving me crazy!
Based on my research on this forum, I concluded it was my my sway bar bushings and links. My mechanic replaced them and the links looked okay and the bushings were a little worn. But the clunk is gone! I'm a happy camper! 😀

Cruise control switch. X308
Changed the cc switch on the centre console as it was no longer lighting up at night. Unfortunately replacement (second hand) has same problem. I seem to remember seeing a post some where with description of how to change the light inside the switch. Both switches (old and new) work ok, just need to change the bulb inside. Anybody have any idea where I might find those instructions? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello & I bought one.
Hi All,
I went out and bought my very first ever Jag and it's an Alpine Green XJ8 X308 built in 1999.
I do have some issues with it. I can't use the remote yet as I need to clean it up and programme it. I can't open the boot as the car appears to be in Valet Mode permanently, although the key works. Driving along late last night the interior lights came on for no reason and went off after about 15 seconds, spooky.
I may have bought a 'Lemon', but it's my lemon and I will cherish it and nurse it back to life. It may take some time and money but I'm near retirement so who cares?
Thanks for reading this.

Tripcock: Abacus Racing on Bakers Road between Northampton and AirLand is super when issues get more than you can manage, they specialize in Jags and Land Rovers. Lots of suggestions on suppliers for parts on this forum and a hell lot cheaper that the Flag. But push comes to shove, Todd Fullerton at Checkered Flag is a super guy. Cooling system, end to end, secondary timing tensioners, then front end parts, shocks, shock mounts, sway bar bushings, and links, and pads (of course) after you fix the immediate issues. you have a Black key (not the green valet key), apparently; should be able to turn off valet mode once it starts. Should be able to download all manuals in the stickies on this forum if you do not have a complete set. Good luck.
Observe carefully the operation of the transmission. Known for high failure rate.
Cheapest oil fill and general service in local area is the AAA Service Center on Va Bch Blvd just east of the Military Hwy. Clean shop, middle age certified techs.

Low-Buck Horsepower, Front Plate Foolishness...
Finally got the Jag's personalized plates in the mail, couldn't wait to install! Then realized I'd have no legal excuse not to have a front plate. While I can use the paper temp. in back window for another 3 weeks of front-plateless motoring... hmmm...
Also been adding horsepower without touching drivetrain. How, you ask?
- Substituting chrome mesh 'blower' grill inserts for OEM Waterfall inserts; 19 hp.
- Changing out stock shifter knob to one with fancy walnut & Growler insert; 3 hp.
- Buy, install Jaguar pen in glovebox pen holder; .5 hp.
- HP value of Jag umbrella added to boot lid underside; still on dyno.

Bought Jag pens from Welsh, both 'carbon fibre' and flashlight pen. Too fat to fit well when attempting to snap into holder, will go into holder pushed in nose first. (But found out it makes more sense to leave the pen clipped into green Jag binder containing the cars manual & papers, which I remove from the glovebox when doing 'car stuff')
In the service of honesty, I only rated the pen at .5 hp, not 5 hp. Five hp for a mere pen is silly! Now claiming 5 hp for a chromed Growler oil filler cap.... hmmm...

Just add a K&N ink filter to the pen and you will get the full 5 hp

Considered about the right rims for this car for almost a year, and finally bit the bullet this week, after finding some cheap 18-inch XKR rims on the Japanese Yahoo-bid site.
Did some photo-shopping to be sure, as not too many pictures can be found on the internet.
Will fit the rims with new 245 & 275 tires, and will add a Jamex 40mm lowering set at the same time. It will all be on the way by next week.
Might decide on a Glanz body-kit only after installing, not sure the mighty Jaguar design really needs it.
