Replaced what I can only assume was the original differential fluid with Mobil 1 75-140.

122K on the car. It was long overdue.

Please tell us how it works! I've been debating what to put in the rear end of my XJ and XK; and it's down to the M1, Castrol and Royal Purple. I'm thinking the M1 since I can get it cheap locally and it's solid stuff.

I'm likely going to give my XJR to my mom this spring, but I am going about making sure it's a minter first. I'm likely to keep my XKR and buy another X150 XKR, a DB9 or a Lotus Esprit (I know these are a little all over, but they all interest me). I did the timing chain tensioners, WP, tstat, VC gaskets, spark plugs, belts. I bought a set of winter tires for it, and when I bought it this spring it had 5 new YK580 Yokohamas on it. I have changed all fluids BUT the diff. I've redone the front suspension and steering components. Really all that's left is the headliner, change out the coolant hoses and vacuum hoses, and pop the two dents it's acquired at work.

Any other recommendations that can make the car more ready for a senior citizen who isn't car savvy? BTW - I will still be repairing and maintaining it for her.

Make certain they use the correct tranny fluid for your Jag. My XJR uses Shell 134 ATF. You can find yours here on the board if you search. If they fill it up with Dextron or something like that you are doomed.

If you're going to do the diff fluid it's a great time to inspect and clean the breather on the top too. They clog with age, which builds up pressure inside the diff and eventually leads to leaks out the front pinion seal, which is a PITA job to fix.

Finally... Some pictures of last weekends actions...

Headliner removal, sunroof removal, retrimming and co

At the same time I fitted one more handle on the side as I hate cars with only 3 grab handles... Mine MUST have 4!

Autohaus sells the ZF lifeguard -- $18. ZF still requires the rebuilders to use Lifeguard for the warranty.

The correct fluid is ZF Lifeguard ... One can argue for a lifetime over an = fluid .. I have no idea. I believe a simple refresh is around 5L -- not worth the trouble.

Some fluids are now claiming to be for both the MB box and the ZF box -- ?? Not going to go down the road trying to save $50-60 with such an expensive component.

Yesterday night I decided I would give the Jag a really good cleaning. I washed the Jag, clayed, compounded, and finally waxed. Unfortunately I ran out of time since I started late in the day and I only compounded the hood and the trunk. The results are really good and now the Jag is really clean!

Nice work. Something soul satisfying about getting these rides looking sporty. They are meant to be a presence on the road...when they're in top nick...even all these years later, they get admiring glances from those who know as they cruise past in their cookie-cutter rides.

Yeah, it's worth it! Nice job Pilotman.

Was finally able to test-drive the new kid on the block.
Exterior done, interior still needs work.

Default New tires

The PO advertised as having 4 new tires, battery and alternator..
Get there and he has the receipt from 2010.
They were a General performance summer tire. My guess is the car had been sitting for at least a year. They were noisy, hard riding and liked to grab every rut in the road.
This is how it felt-

Now riding on Continental DWS 06's. WOW!! Is all I can say..

Still a work in progress, but went from this

to this

They came that colour, but I'm going to give it a bit of time before I make any decisions about changing anything.
This makes room for the Brembos I have sitting in a box, but that's going to have to wait until next year before I can afford the disks and pads to finish it off

On my island excursion Saturday my overhead console decides it wanted to "drop in" on me lol. Attempted to re-seat a few times to no avail, I can get the back up with the plastic piece turned 1/4th but the front is not being co-operative. If I can't get it tomm. I'm taking it back to the guys whom did my headliner a few weeks ago & let them deal with it. Guess it really was Halloween after all lol.
