What is the highest mileage 308 out there?

under the doors, under the car. Very common rust out area in many cars due to improper drainage and salt on the winter roads... Not so much of a problem in warm climate areas. My rockers were completely replaced from the inside and the outside, they are double walled. Interior had to come out of car so nothing would burn during welding. Now I have to find a good body shop for the painting.
One body shop quoted me $6000 for a paint job, This particular vehicle has to have the rear window removed and many parts removed to paint it properly.
I am in search of a cheaper body shop...

I think we've had 3 or 4 come through our salvage yard with over 200k miles on them in the past few years. Most of them were pretty rough as you might imagine, but there was a reasonably nice one that we had a few years back with 220,000(ish) miles that simply got rear ended and damaged beyond the point of repair.

My first XJR was retired after 260,000 miles because the paint is just too ugly and the carpets are worn. The engine and transmission are still strong and it burns just a little oil.
My second XJR has 200,000 miles and it is still pretty good, although it is certainly not show condition. I am still fighting RPs and fuel trim issues and think it is now down to injectors being unbalanced. And when I say RPs, I am talking occaisonally and after some really hard runs.
My wife's XJ8 is in pretty great mechanical and cosmetic shape after 180,000 miles, but we only use it for "stepping out" because we want to keep it that way.

It sounds like some new interior and a fresh paint job would bring it out of retirement... The prize could still be yours.

Yeah, but that brings up a good point that I have only learned late in the game... It is much easier and cost effective to fix or replace failed mechanical components that to fix cosmetics inside or out! On the other hand, taking mechanical parts from a high mileage car to fix a low mileage car seems like a waste of labor. Then again, I have not YET given it to the scrapper for $500.

2002 XJ8 Base
Was a single-owner car, or so I believe, as the previous owner had lived or owned property in each state in which the car was registered.
It is now my DD, and currently has 53,545 miles on the clock. I have put about 1200 miles on it in just a few days over one month ownership.
I am in love with this car!
