It's hard to guess without some idea of the dimensions. Please take a picture with a ruler alongside or just send us the dimensions.

I think the plastic pieces are from the chain guides. I assume you are planning on changing the chains, guides and tensioners. Also remove the oil pickup and clean out the plastic pieces, they can reduce oil flow.

Looks like the piston from the platic tensioners.

Tensioner piston sounds right, it's got that little hole for the oil to squirt through and lubricate the timing chain. By how chewed up it is it looks like it may have caught some moving parts on the way down. Time to pull the timing cover and get some new parts in before you bend some valves.

+1 guys. Trigger, don't try to turn that engine over, even by hand, until you can see if the top chains are still connected, and even then go slowly clockwise from the front and stop if you feel resistance. It's likely some valves are bent but maybe you are lucky.

If you take a look at the repair parts at SNG Barratt you will find you have lost a primary tensioner. You are going to have to remove the timing cover. I would recommend that since you are in there, it would be a good time for a complete update. SNG Barratt, Jagbits both forum sponsors have complete kits for replacing the timing chains.
One caution, make sure that the parts are listed for your VIN number. There is a difference in lengths for the primary chain guides.

It may have been a leftover from a former repair job...

Interesting thought, I never considered that possibility, but considering some of the stories I have seen here......

Daim, you are absolutely right. It's a leftover from a previous tensioner replacement ...)
it's tensioner piston and some pieces of plastic detailes.

Thank you all !

If the mechanic who did the tensioner job didn't clean out the oil pan after doing so, wonder what that says about their quality of work...

xjay8, it's definetly luck. Couple years ago ( i own this jaguar for 8 years already)
mechanic with "crooked" hands replaced chains kit and 2 valves and probably left some parts inside... i wonder how the jaguar runs with such trash inside...

You are in the lap of the mechanical gods my friend.....speak kindly to your car, give it another oil change and filter, clean the oil pickup and re assemble.
You are extremely lucky that the tensioner piston made it all the way to the sump in the first place without becoming jammed in the primary chain and wrecking your engine.....go buy a couple of lottery tickets!
