What to look for in a '99 XJR?
Greetings:
Depending on what my sister decides to do with her old car, I may have an opportunity to pick it up. Briefly, it's a one owner, dealer maintained, un-crashed car with approximately 110,000 miles on the clock. My current daily driver is a Q45 so I have some idea about maintenance issues and problem areas common on technically sophisticated (and somewhat complicated) luxury cars. As a confirmed DIY guy, I expect that I will be wrenching on it myself and need to get up to speed on what to expect and what to look for when "shopping".
I've just spent the better part of the last three hours pouring over old threads on this forum to get a handle on genetic and maintenance issues on these cats. Chain tensioners and water pumps seem to be issues and to a lesser extent the Nikasil problem shared with BMW V8's from that vintage. My questions at this point are:
What are the other known weaknesses, if any, with this particular car?
What is the collective widsom of the members of this forum with regard to immediate post purchase maintenance (Fluid changes, chain tensioners, etc)?
Are the factorysuggested maintenance intervals adequate for long and reliable service or should certain items be tended to on a more rigorous schedule?
Thanks in advance for any insight you might be able to share with me.
Regards, Jeff.

The XJR has sleeved cylinders, not niksail. You are good there.
Tensioners could be an issue, so consider doing that as a PM issue in the near future if you plan on keeping car.
Factory maintenance states every 10k. I would cut that in half.
XJR is a good solid car.
