What is this orange gunk??
While crawling around under my car (I seem to be doing that a lot lately) I see this orange gunk....
Was this some hack sealant job for a leaking water pump? In the records for this 2000 XJR I just bought it said the water pump was leaking and then later replaced. Would this have been from someone trying to seal it from the outside, or something else.
Who does this kind of stuff???

The records that came with the car indicated that there was a leak from the water pump which has been fixed. It did say that he was losing approximately a quart a month of fluid. OK, so now at least I know what it was and I'm pretty confident that it was fixed per the receipt showing a new water pump installed because of a leaking water pump. I will clean it off and when the car is back running again hopefully in about a week, I will check on that regularly to make sure it is no longer leaking.

Y'all should know me better by now...
I just bought this new 2000 Black Pearl over Ivory XJR, so of course I had to quickly take it all apart to "make it better"
Upgraded to all metal tensioners
Direct cold air from fog light hole to air box area
Getting a 92mm Pro-M MAF and 4" to 3.5" intake tube fabbed up. (improved over my original one)
Sent the TB off to Maxbore
Ported the Elbow and charge coolers and thoroughly cleaned them myself
upgraded inter cooler pump to Bosch 010
Getting a port done on the blower so it can run cooler and more efficiently at my 15 psi target boost.
Changed knock sensors and all hoses while the super charger is out of the way.
Installing Water/Meth injection to be sprayed at 375 ml/min
Installing fine water mist spray onto inter cooler radiator
Devising "other" cooling devices "MoohooHaaAhhhhh..."
Oil change with Royal Purple HPS 5W30
Properly ducting the front brakes
Full detailed posts with photos will come when I am finished with each project
I am expecting this car to be solidly in the 12's in the 1/4 mile. It won't compete well with the twin screw cars, but if they sneeze, I just might squeak by!

+1 on leaked and dried coolant.
But it looks to be a bit more than that. Coolant alone would just be a staining or a thin film whereas this appears to be globules.
You mention the PO had a serious coolant loss. I wonder if he used some kind of 'Stop Leak' (such as Bars Leaks) to try and fix this before replacing the water pump? If so, the system needs a thorough flush to get rid of all traces of it.
