Default What a shame..

In my search for an XJR, I stumbled across several sites selling salvage vehicles. Smashed, burned, and flood damaged. Between the sites there were probably 100 x308 XJR's listed.. Talk about depressing

One of them did catch my eye though.. Black '03 with the R1 package. 84,xxx miles and flood damaged. Current "Bid" is $100 (+$400 or so in fees.) I'm sure it will sell for more, but a guy can dream right?

I wish it was closer.. I would buy it just to take the brakes and wheels off of it, then bring it to the local scrapyard. But.. It's all the way down in Texas. I'm sure shipping would be at least $500. At that point it's probably not even worth it. There's also another black '03 R1 car in South Carolina (engine fire,) but that's no closer to me. I'd be better off finding a scrapyard online that would be willing to sell the brakes to me (if I can even find one that has an R1 equipped car.)

Oh well.. The search for my dream car continues

Start adding up the costs and time to bring those cars up to snuff, and then at the end of the day you are still left with a "unsalvaged" car- take that same money and time and see if you can get close to what you want that is driveable and has a clean title. You may be surprised.

No no no.. I wasn't even contemplating trying to fix up a salvage car. If I wanted a car with a salvage title, I would just buy the '02 in BRG for sale in Minnesota. At least that one has been fixed up already, so I wouldn't need to do any work to it.

My interest in the car mentioned above was strictly parts related. Essentially, I just want the brakes off of it to add to my future XJR. The R1 package Brembos seem to go for around $1500-2500 for the complete set. So if I could get the car for $1000/shipped, I would still be doing well. Plus, I could also sell the factory BBS wheels after I remove the brakes (not really a fan of 5 spoke wheels.) Those seem to go for $1k or more, especially if they still have tires on them. Plus, I could strip off some of the easy-to-remove parts, like interior door panels, hood, front fenders, truck lid, etc. Then those parts could be put up for sale.

After that, the local yard would probably still give me $400 for what remained of the car. It was just a thought.. A little extra cash on hand would really help out, especially when my ideal XJR finally pops up for sale.

I've been watching salvage XJR's also. Some look pretty nice and if looking for a car to keep who cares if the title is dirty.
Problem is there never close, and shipping could add another $1000 to the cost.
This XJR-100 recently went thru a Georgia auction. Salvage title, car had been reported stolen, 91,000 miles. Before the auction went live it was up the $2200. Even with that, add the $600 in fees then the $1000 shipping we're at $3800.
Not really bad for a 100 in my opinion. But it would probably take another $3800 to fix it.

Yeah I saw an XJR 100 on Craigslist (I think in New York) with front-end damage. Guy was asking $3000, and he is including almost all of the parts to rebuild it. However, it has almost 200,000 miles on the clock..

I also found an XJR 100 for sale in California.. No pictures. Has 81,000 miles on it and they only want $10,995.. Kind of makes me wonder what's wrong with it.

The one that you posted doesn't seem too messed up.. I'm surprised that the insurance company considered it a total loss. I could understand if it was an aluminum bodied car, but these are steel.

Default It's in CT

Remember, that's "asking".
What I don't want to do is part it either..
As you said, brakes and wheels are worth that. I have a complete 02 XJ sport to go with it. It's engine was bad and no title. The 100's title is clean.
Here's the thread from when I got it.

And the thread from when he got it-

I've since bought another, and just want to move on but may end up parting it because I'd be more likely to recoup more cash. Hate to part a 100 though..

Ha.. My bad. I didn't know that was your car I agree with you that it shouldn't be parted out. Shame about the mileage though.. I'm guessing that was their daily driver before the wreck?

Yeah, and took good care of it too..
Once I got it here I pulled as much as I could to get everything away from the engine and fired it up. Runs really good. No codes anything..

That's good to hear I would consider buying that from you. HOWEVER.. I'm too far from you, and I have no experience with these Jags yet. So shipping 2 cars 1/3 the way across the country, and paying someone to repair the 100 for me would be too much $$$$. Plus, even though having an XJR 100 would be cool, I'm trying to find something with under 100k miles.

But I'm sure it will find a good home soon
