What's jiggling over my head? Sunroof rattling when closed
The sunroof has a rattle that is just over my head (above the driver's seat) when it's closed, it stops rattling in tilt or open positions (which makes it hard to debug) - what can I adjust/tighten to stop that noise?
Sounds like metal on metal.

To help diagnose you can try removing the larger inside panel, and seeing if the noise persists. Tilt the sunroof open, and the panel should come out if you slide it out, through the gap above the roof, towards the back of the car. Once that's off, you can close the sunroof and look around the mechanism for loose bits.
If it's the metal sunroof itself having come loose, there's two or three torx screws on the left and right sides that hold it in place.

Anyone have the sunroof diagrams ?!
My sunroof trim panel @ times will stay back like it's not attached properly to the roof panel. I'm thinking it's the clip # HNA1769AA, but of course that's discontinued. I'd hate to have to have the recently restored headliner taken down just to relocate that clip, if it's even still up there.

Sunroof Noise 98 XJ8
Recently bought this car, had a strange noise coming from the sunroof, like something was flapping, open or closed. Jaguar specialist offered to check it out for $300, but said repairs on these could get expensive. I passed. Noise persisted, at times seemed to subside depending whether it was open, if it was tilted..or if you pushed up where the noise seemed to be coming from. Drove me nuts, seemed to be thrumming as time passed. Put my thinking cap on..what it was, was almost funny. The rubber water drain hose that goes from the sunroof down through the firewall into the wheel well had dislodged, and the end of it was simply contacting the right front tire and transmitting the sound back up the hose. Snip off 3 inches at the end...problem solved.

Likely the spring that keeps the sunroof trim panel down while closed. Mine was rattling all the time before fixed. The panel has two metal snaps at the front that can be engaged and dislodged with some light force by sliding the panel backwards or forwards. If the studs the snaps attach to have broken you can likely replace them with machine screws. It's actually pretty simple to remove the trim panel. Just tilt the sunroof up, lightly pull back at the front corners to disengage the snaps then move to the outside and push the springs down at the top rear of the trim panel to slide the panel out of the sunroof opening. From here you can see if any parts have broken on the sunroof assembly or the back of the trim panel.
