Default Wheel Size Inquiry

Hi All,

i was wondering if anyone can help me decide whether to change the wheels on my XJR 2000, currently i have 19" wheels with low profile tires, but to be honest i feel like the smaller wheels with high profile tires would improve the ride quality, it feels hard on rough roads, i have bought this car with the 19'' wheels, also i dont know what were the OEM wheels and tires the car came with.

since it's a 2000 its the Astriod wheels from Jag, and Jaguar used P zeros as recommended tire and thats what the car came with. If you open your door and see the date from 99' then it was Penta wheels from Jag. But to improve your ride try putting sport shocks from bilstein shocks. I hope that helps you out.

I went from 225/60R16 to F245/45R18 and R275/40R18.

These 18" tires have a sidewall of 110mm (4.3''), which did not really reduce the comfort compared to the 16".

However, anything lower than that (including the popular 255/40R18 as fitted on many 8J rims) will start to impact the comfort zone.

Besides, I opted for relative soft sidewall tires (Toyo Proxes T1 Sport) which helps, and my car is a N/A Vanden Plas with soft suspension, which helps as well.

Big question is if any 16" will even clear the calipers on your car. I'm not an expert, but that'd be my first question.

I run ~30psi front on 245/45R18, and ~32psi rear on 275/40R18.
Hope that gives a reference.

I recently purchased 4 wheels for my XJ8, they are the 5 spoke wheels that came off an XJR, and I obtained them from Eurojag for only a £100, mainly because they were in need of a refurb. Found someone local to refurb them for another £100 (£25 a corner) and never been happier. The finish for £25 each is unbelievable using Jaguar colour, best purchase I ever made.

i already bought tyres for the same rims, and the tyre company recommended 35 psi for the front and the back. also i will test the 16", if they fit i will put 205/65 on them and see how they go.

I don't think a 16" will clear your XJR brake calipers, perhaps 17" will do.

And note the earlier x308 Daimlers and Vanden Plas (where Jaguar put smaller rims on to add some comfort) have 225 wide tires (225/60).
205/65 is really small and not necessary, as you are after an increased sidewall, not a smaller thread.

well, if they clear, i will put the 225/60 as you recommend, since im getting them for free, i just need to see if they fit well, only then i will get tyres for them.
