Hi everyone, recently my transmission had a slippage problem therefore i need to replace the transmission. One Does anyone recommend where i can get one not too expensive? The dealer is asking 8300.00 bucks for a new one and 5000.00 for a used one. + labor! dont want to say how much is that but for total it is better buying another Jag, but i don't want another jag. I want mines Back ! I have not turned the car on since I left to vacation from 2/3/11 till now and the starter won't crank! Does anyone knows where is that starter so I can give that sucker and pounding and hopefully it will start?

Given your stated intentions, I think the best answer is that the starter is down there where fools can't beat on it. As to the transmission, check around for a place that rebuilds ZF Brand 5 HP24 model gearboxes. The prices you quoted are out of line. A rebuilt unit can cost between $2200 and $3500 common pricing and can cost about $1000 to r/r.
Shop a little and beat those prices.

Yea the day I tried to start it up I noticed the battery was dead so i had it charged but no luck after i heard just a click when turning the key. So I figured it was the starter. Anyone has a picture of this sucker so I can pin point it and try to smack it? I know (sparkenzap) you said it is in a position that no one can get it but at least i want to know exactly where that is. Perhaps i may be fool enough to try it! ;o Anyways picture would help a lot! Thanks for your reply but i need the information for a 1999 XJ8 only.

Your battery is almost certainly dead. The click is the pull in of the solenoid, which applies a load and pulls the battery to low voltage. Although I am quite sure that someone, sometime has whacked their Jaguar solenoid and then had the car start, that is left from old GM starter designs. However, I can see you are quite determined to do some whacking, so look down at the rear of the engine on the right hand side (passenger US) beside the cat converter which looks llike a heavy duty coffee can. The starter is the thing that has a big black wire hooked to it.
In the mean time, why not jump the car off with some good jumper cables and drive it to the ZF repair shop.
