Whistle noise at 80 mph
this is my 1st supercharged engine on this new to me auto. At about 80 mph I start hearing a whistle noise. For the life of me I can't figure out where it is from. I checked windows for wind noise. The car acts fine. The car basically only had a 500 miles a year for a long time. So took it on a small road trip Is it the supercharger that makes a sporadic (comes and goes ) whistle at high speeds ? Thanks !

I have had mine up to 150 a few times......and I start to get cavitation from the windscreen design around 100. But, I get noise from 2 places, one is the wiper, its obviously not aerodynamic and the windscreen design causes it to vibrate...and the gutter and chrome trim that comes down the front of the doors. At the bottom of the chrome there is supposed to be a rubber/plastic insert that is known to fall out, as mine have. Along with the fact the chrome is surface mounted and "exposed" and that missing piece causes a howling/whistling noise on mine.

The mirror is definitely one place to check.
Another spot to check is the front of the chrome surround on the doors (the chrome surround on the car itself, not the one on the door). Follow it down to the fender. At the tip of the chrome surround, there is a little piece of plastic on there. The plastic can get brittle and break off bits and pieces (or breaks off completely). Underneath the plastic is a nice sharp edge of metal that catches the wind just right at 80mph (no noise until you hit sufficient speed).
I was on a road trip when this happened to me. Stuck a piece of gum on the metal tip and finished my drive whistle-free.
