I just started getting apuff of heavy white smoke when I start my XJR. Any idea why? I also seem to have no Cruise Control and get an error reading "Failsafe Engine Mode" when i trya dn engage it. Could it be related? Has anyone found a good aftermarket supplier for parts other than the dealer?

Hello, what year is your Jag? My car has the similiar problem with the engine warning and lack of cruise control... My diagnosis was, I need a new instrument cluster! A master Jag mechanic told me, this is common in 1998 - 2000 XJ8. As for the white smoke, it could be a ton of reasons... My car drives normal, except the cruise and warning message! I'm searching for a cluster right now with similiar miles to my car!!! The only way the company can reset your mileage is to purchase a new one!!!

Get a good compression check by a qualified Jag technician right away. This was one of the early symptoms of Nicasil failure in my 1999 XJR that eventually made me replace my old engine with a brand new 2007 engine from Jaguar. If your compression in all cylindersis good (no blow-by), continue to use highest-quality gas, always bring your engine to full-temp before shutting the engine off (no round-the-block driving), and only use extended performance 5w-30 synthetic oil (Mobil 1, for example) in your engine.
