Default Who wants to try and diagnose this sound

This was my last XJR it's coolant resivivor exploded while on freeway and coolant light came on when getting off it ended up smoking and I ended up pulling over. I Assume it overheated due to how fast these engines heat up or it could have been just the coolant evaporating but im assuming it over heated forsure. I'm assuming bent pistons and values for sure but it still turns over like new what do you guys think the chances are the engine can be rebuilt. I already have another XJR I'm just curious at this point.

AJ-V8 valve seats are a possibility, they drop out of the cylinder heads if they go over temp. I would start with removing them and go from there.

Sound is a stuck lifter. Keep driving it. The most likely problem will be the effects of a blown head gasket.
If they are ok, you dodged a bullet. Engine is ok.

Sorry, I am only guessing: I once forgot to check the temp. gauge on my van. I drove about 150km with very minimal coolant, as I did not notice I lost it over time. And then I made the worst mistake: I poured cold water into the coolant reservoir - that cold water in the very hot engine warped the engine - I needed a new (reconditioned) upper half of the engine block.

Thus I am thinking: Maybe something warped when your engine overheated? Do you get oil in the coolant? Do you get coolant in the oil? Do you have exhaust-leaks between engine and manifold?

> I'm assuming bent pistons and values for sure...
I was also thinking "valves" - which is what you meant when you typed "values" and pistons.
The engine kind of sounds as bad as some of the engines, which were fed incompressible water into the air-intake...:

There is no coolant resivivor in the car as of right now since it exploded and overheated I just assumed it wasn't even worth getting it diagnosed. As of right now when checking the dip stick and looking into the oil resivivor no there is no sign of coolant mix, but as stated the resivivor exploded so I doubt it would have had much of a chance to mix.

Do a dry compression test next. There’s no numbers posted through Jaguar for the results. As long as the numbers are within 20% of each other, buy an expansion tank and install it on the car. Make sure you purge all the air out of the cooling system and top it off with coolant so you can drive the car to full operating temperature. If you still don’t want to do all that, sell the car. *Do not* add any kind of cooling system sealer to it.
