Default Why can't the dealer find record of my car?

I called the original Jaguar dealer where my car was purchased from 9 years ago to try to get some service records of the car and when I gave them the vin # they said the car is not in their system. I know it's been 9 years since the car was bought from them but shouldn't they still have record that they sold the car?

They can get it just depends on who you ask.

They should they have a record of the car passing through their inventory but who knows how many local computer crashes they have had in almost a decade. The Jaguar on-line system should have a complete record of all information on the car from the assembly point plus all service/repairs done at any dealer anywhere based on the VIN. Ask nicely, the info is out there.

I should clarify... It's not that they won't give me the info. They were willing to give me the information but when they entered the vin number in their computer the car was not found in their system. I spoke to 2 different reps in 2 separate departments and neither one could find it.

The Jaguar DDW only has info on Warranty or Recall info. Indiviual dealers have info for repairs done 'out of warranty' at their own facility but that info is NOT uploaded to DDW because Jaguar has NO interest or need to know of customer pay repairs. There is usually a paper trail until the car is out of factory warranty so it would seem strange that the car never existed. Sometimes a dealer gets a car from Jaguar and then trades/sells the car to another dealer. I would call the dealer, provide the VIN or VID NUMBER (not VIN NUMBER as the N is an abreviation for NUMBER) and ask if the car has any outstanding RECALLS and they will interogate the DDW system. Then you can find the original selling dealer and all warranty work that was done. There is a right to privacy in some states and the dealer may not wish to print out the original owner/purchaser name so there is that part of the equation.

Hope you get it sorted out.
