Hey there, I've had my windows tinted on my Jag, my dads Bimmer, and 3 of my past Cherokees (which I use in winter) and the rear defroster lines your talking about don't have an effect on the tint. I drove through all of last winter and it didnt bother them at all and I asked the guy before I had them done because that was my concern too!! Make sure you get them professionally done and they'll turn out great just like on all of my vehicles. Good professional tinting jobs will cost you inbetween 150-180 for all 5 windows on your XJ8 if your getting them all done. Anything cheaper than that and the tint shop will be using a lower cheaper grade of tint rolls. Hope this helps!

Had a '95 XJ6 done about 11 years ago and they still looked good when I sold it. The tint faded a bit, but the only way you could tell it was the part of the glass that was not exposed when they were rolled up was a little darker. No issues with the rear defroster.
