Hello everyone,

I own a 2000 Jaguar XJ VandenPlas. Recently, the dashboard bulbs behind the instrument panel went dark. I checked the relevant fuses (with the battery disconnected) to see if they were blown but they were ok. So I set out to replace the bulbs and got it done quite easily. The problem was afterwards, when I went to start the car, it wouldn't crank. The lights (interior and headlights, as well as the instrument panel), radio, locks/windows, etc all work just fine when the key is in position "II". But when I go to crank it, the engine doesn't turn over. I don't hear any sounds either. Before I started work on the dash lights, I was sure to disconnect the battery (I disconnected the negative terminal). I think (but not sure) I took the keys out of the ignition. Also, a warning message came up saying the trunk door was open even though I had shut it. I went and checked a couple of fuses but they were all good. After that, the trunk message went away but the car is still not cranking. Any suggestions?

 

Yeah, check the battery voltage with the headlights on at the battery and again under the hood at the false bulkhead connectors. e can go from there.
