Default Woo Hoo - New to Me 2000 XJ8L

So I just drove home in my new to me 2000 XJ8L in Sapphire Blue with Oatmeal interior.

It has a few flaws but overall is in excellent condition given it's 108K mileage.

It is a one owner car and from what the service writer told me it was maintained without regard to expense.

I plan to give it a minor tune up and cleaning and I will post photos ASAP.

I am curious what spark plugs, oil type and coolant type is recommended.

Thanks

Eric

Hi and welcome to the big Jag family I wish you to write only about all the exciting experience with your new XJ and as less as possible threads about issues and problem.

About your questions, I'll try to help you:
1. Spark plugs - the short answer is NGK BKR5EIX-11, but try reading this: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...vdp-faq-52159/
2. Oil type... very very difficult question... this is like asking "which is the best car" - you'll find as many answer as people you ask... I use Yacco and Motul 5W30 or 5W35, only full synthetic. If you want to stick with the recommended engine oil by Jaguar, you can read this one: http://partsforjaguar.co.uk/download...arOilChart.pdf
The capacity of your engine is between 6 and 7 liters. When filling up is good to know that your dipstick maximum level is mistaken - you can fill up to 1cm. over the sign for maximum... if you want to know why, try searching the forum...
3. About the coolant - IT'S VERY IMPORTANT! Always use ONLY the original yellow antifreeze, because the XJ8 coolant system is extremely sensitive to wrong fluids... When I bought my own Jag it was fill with some cheap blue antifreeze and it took me about 2 weeks just to clean all the garbage and to unplug the system. To find more information about what is your coolant, try reading this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-99-xj8-82315/ or this one: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...coolant-52967/

Wish you all the best...

Congratulations!

I will look forward to your progress as you work through the small issues that crop up from time to time, and hurry with the pics! (or maybe post the ad?)

If you are in OC (or close) we have monthly club meetings in Costa Mesa right after the Irvine Cars and Coffee (one tomorrow actually)and I am the ONLY X308 currently.

So far it's very nice. I need to fix the heat and the headliner and the rear view mirror and I should be good.

VERY nice XJ!

For the sagging headliner, use some sewing pins to tack it in place until you are ready to replace, it's almost unnoticeable.
