Top tip on the transmission service, the standard service
is fluid, filter, and pan gasket. This should not cost more than
$300 (unless the dealer does it), and do not have it flushed.
That's a surefire way to kill the transmission.

I just had mine done at 104k and it shifts better already, I bet it
will last longer now.

congrats on the new XJR! Welcome to one of the most fanatical little
groups on Jaguar Forums! :P

Thanks, Ian & Prototype:
I'm arranging for a Monday pickup, and it is still pending in independent inspection just to be safe. But, I'm very hopeful. It will be a huge step forward from my '94 - which, in every way, is also a great car. I'll report more when its done...

cheers,
Scott

Hi again, guys:
Well, I bought it! I had the car inspected and things checked out really OK. I'll be doing the upper tensioners and a tranny service in the next couple of weeks. The car drives nice and looks great. I'll get some pictures up as soon as I can get around to detailing. I ended up paying $3500 - which I thought was more than fair considering the low mileage and the condition.

Thank you for all your encouragement, knowledge, and support. I'm excited to be an X308 owner! Now I'm off to sell an good XJ40. Any takers?!

Cheers,
Scott
