You know, we 308 guys seem to really dislike 350 cars, we have our nags about the new one... TBH, I don't think Classic XJ owners feel that way about our cars. My friend owns 3 Series I's, and to my surprise, he said he loves my car. Even as something of an XJ purist, I don't ever feel like my car is a 'fake' in the XJ lineup. It even looks ok next to its granddad.

What do we think? I kind of like the Series III XJ12, X308 XJR-100, and, well I could go on forever. But what are our favourites of the XJ legacy? How would you feel if you pulled up next to a perfect Mark I at a concours?

Series One XJ? 'Well done Sir William' - He reinvented the luxury sports saloon market with that car. The 3.8 MKII was a serious car, but the XJ was a quantum leap...
It's one of the most handsome of all Jaguars - the big grill in a rear view mirror make it instantly recognizable. I've always loved them. I had an S1 XJ 4.2 Manual short wheel base in squadron blue, on Fondmetal stainless wire wheels, sold it to buy an engagement ring, the car's gone and so's the girl, oh well, you live and learn...
The best of this generation, the XJ-C, why Jaguar don't make a 2 door coupe XJ anymore??

My day had a light green XJC in the 70's. Coupes were so popular in the 60's and 70's - The rise of the German spots sedans changed the formula.

The new bumper requirements affected Jaguar more than most -- the early cars had such clean lines and the redesign for the new bumpers did complicated the front end.

The x300 works IMO because it is so beautiful -- It still amazes me that Ford got the x300 out of the XJ40 ...a car I never liked ....as since we still had a 82 S III when it arrived for comparison.

My 1995 Flamenco red/cream VDP was the best looking sedan I have ever owned -- they only made it one year as the VDP went LWB with a raised roof and bench rear seat in 1996.

The x350 is a different car.
