X308 rear hub fulcrum adjustment
#1
![Question](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
My 1998 XJR s/c was making terrible clonking noises from the rear, hopefully I thought it might be the exhaust banging.
Upon further investigation the rear hub is moving fore and aft on the fulcrum pin.
I've seen diagrams that show adjustment shims but no indication of how tight these should be
Any help appreciated

The shims are used for alignment (camber adjustment). The fulcrum bolt and nut are torqued to 88-122 NM's. If you are moving back and forth at the wishbone then most likely the fulcrum bushing are worn out and will need to be replaced.
If you haven't already you need to download JTIS from the how to section for what is necessary to replace the bushings.

Thanks for your response, I'm new to this site and find my way around, where is the how to section? Can this bearing replacement be done without special tools?

Yes, Wrenchs/floor jack/jackstands, nothing special. The Fulcrum bolt is eccentric and sets the rear toe, so note the orientation before loosening/removing it. f the bolt is loose, the toe will be all over the place.

Your going to want to find X308 Workshop on site using the Search and download it...its a PDF. I cannot upload it here because its too large. Starting on pg 284 you will see I believe what you are looking for and scroll down.
The nice thing about the Workshop manual is when you move your mouse over the Table of Contents and you find what you want... "Driveline" in your case and/or sub titles under it. Prompt on it and it will go to it. Beats scrolling through 2500 pgs.
