Sorry if this is redundant but looking for group wisdom on best way (time/expense/result) to deal with non-functioning rear shelf speaker. Review of previous posts either are outdated, lead to expired or missing links or are a bit contradictory/confusing. Given that the rear shelf needs to come out- repair or replace?? And with what? Not interested in new amp or head unit- only want a functioning speaker....thanks to all!

When you pull it out, you'll probably find it has disintegrated and is worthless, like mine.
There are shallow 5" ones which easily match if not surpass the original. Here's the ones I picked up...https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1...
You're probably saying, the one that came out is 6x9...I'm saying make a inset plate out of lexan or plywood using the old trim ring for fitment, mount the speaker to it and then the plate in its designed spot. I was thinking of using that method on mine (still might), but I decided to put black foam from one of my pelican cases in the cover grill on the deck (using the trim ring for measurement) and put both speakers in the trunk pointing up at the grill. The foam is simply a through cover screen that allows the bass to come through.
Those speakers are thin enough you can mount them about anywhere, including under your seat if you feel fit to do so or just want to feel the bass in the seat of your pants.
