I currently have a 99 xjr. Love it to death. It is my baby. But I have always been a fan of the vanden plas. When I found out their was a super charged version, that made them even more appealing to me.

Main question I wanted to know is Was the MSRP higher then the XJR?

What are the Mechanical differences (if any)?

What are the the other differences? (other then longer wheel base and trays for rear passengers)

Check out the number of VDP S/C built- Mark my words, they will be a rare collectible.

 

Of course the MSRP was higher, the top of the line X308 with a SC'er, that like having your cake and ice cream and eating it too

I was searching for the SC version VP version, never found one. Best of luck in finding one.

788 total. Figure maybe 1/2 are already wrecked/dismantled... and you get a very rare car.

And yes, good luck finding one, I see them occasionally online but you really need to have the cash ready and be patient waiting for the right one. (original engine, paint, good working order.)

 

I'm the relatively happy and proud owner of a 2001 XJ8 Vanden Plas Supercharged. 57K miles to date and (as yet) no signifigant problems except the rare "Restricted Performance" state. I’m having the cam chain tensioners done in early October. After that, I’ll drive even more politically incorrectly. The MSRP for these succa’s back in “01 was around $85K. Add gas guzzler and CA sales tax and you’re getting up there! The mechanical differences have been noted here and in other forum threads so I shall not. For me, the coolest difference is the inscription “Supercharged” on the tachometer face and (at least for 2001) the script “supercharged” added to the rear VDP model tag. There are some pics of mine in my forum garage.

 

Supercharged Vanden Plas was later renamed to just the Super V8 model in the last year. IIRC

It was the end-all be all with all the bells and whistles in the name of luxury.

I had a 2001 VDP SC from 04-06. The torque was incredible,much better than the AMG i replaced it with. Still miss it.

 

Unless you need to back seat the XJR is a better car IMO.

I bought a 95 VDP and then a 99VDP -- 95 was the first year of the new body style and they did not make a LWB model -- so the VDP that year was the same as the normal sedan .. when I moved to the 99 I did not like the length or the raised roof of the VDP.

I think the Super V8 was 13k more than the XJR

 

Zilla - if you like to drive hard on the backroads the VDP may be too soft compared to your XJR. Installing the rear anti-roll bar from the XJR helped reduce the roll. On the plus side the ride is really smooth, people love the back seat, and, of course, the S/C engine-trans.

 

I own a black 2003 super v8. Only 788 were produced. Has an oatmeal leather interior. Beautiful and rare. It's in storage now through winter but I hear it should go up in value if I keep it well taken care of. No worries there it's one of the last x308's on the road and it's amazing!
