X308 XJR Engine Removal

I put the car on a lift, disconnect everything needed and put two hydraulic rolling tables under the car.
Lower the car until the powertrain and front subframe are on the tables, unbolt and lift the body free.
I keep one table under the engine/subframe and the other under the gearbox.
Unbolt the cataverters, bell housing bolts and roll the engine/subframe away from the gearbox. (be sure to remove the torque converter bolts before you lower the powertrain)
The steering column is a pain because it does get in the way on both the X308 and the X100.
The sedan can sometimes leave the column in place but the X100 column is REALLY in the way.

I am replacing with engine with an 02 xkr which I’m still in the process of saving up for. The previous engine spun a bearing due to no oil pressure (pickup was clogged with residue of broken tensioners). Owner had replaced the tensioners but never cleaned up the mess and I found out until I pulled the pan.

I put an old comforter on the roof, pull the hood and set it on the roof with the insulation side facing down.
You’ll obviously need an engine hoist.
You’ll get different opinions on the transmission but, I pull it out from the bottom side.
The engine will come out the top. Since it spun a bearing, YOU MUST flush out the engine oil cooler and lines with a type of solvent and compressed air.
Taking pictures along the way will be your best bet to save time and aggravation. When you take fasteners off, place it with the component it attaches to.
Will the XKR engine come with all the items that attach to it such as A/C compressor, power steering pump, alternator, etc? Or does it come as just a long block?

it’s very easy
hood out
unbolt cats take them out unplug engine harness, o2 sensor plugs, TCM plug, oil pressure plug. radiator out. starter wire out. unbolt ac hose to cabin and jump hose to drier
remove ps pump set it aside. disconnect the heater connections at the back.
quick disconnect tool on fuel lines set them aside. remove hose on evap solenoid that goes to the crankcase breather.
unbolt trans crossmember and the linkage nut, three driveshaft bolts pointing to engine, engine ground strap.
bumper out slide hoist under it unbolt motor mounts lift engine out

I did my first one this summer I took the first one out the bottom and then I put it back in the top it was an XK8. But I put an XJ8 Engine back in the car one thing that saved me a lot of effort was being able to disconnect the power steering and air conditioning and leaving it in the car when I pulled it off the top there’s enough room to get the bolts off and wired up inside there nicely torrid stays in position because you’re gonna have to put it back in later. It was a long process but it was worth doing after taking the first one out the bottom I didn’t feel that I wanted to do that on This Engine back in the car one thing that saved me a lot of effort I will see if I can find some pictures

One thing that would’ve made this R&R a lot easier was being able to pick the Engine up square every time I try it I had it I’ll send her just a little bit and that made it a pain to line up with the transmission and the motor mounts. If I remember to there was an issue with the fly wheel apparently there can be two different kinds I’m not sure about the XJr?

I had the problem A week ago if the 3 bolts are out of the torque converter and 17 or out of the Transmission there’s a 8 mm bolt that is holding a radiator coolant lines in place hidden down by the air conditioner pump and the only thing holding it is Metal over the years as weled it’s up to the aluminum on your transmission Ear Side of the transmission that you have a steady Pop it looks like one side of your motor is completely free I was able to get a big screwdriver in a spot on the side of the transmission and motor and give it a heave it won’t pop!
