XJ Sport 4.0 vs E39 M5
Hi guys, I was having fun with my friend who has a BMW M5, and he insisted that we take a compared acceleration run.
From 40-70 (or maybe a little bit more than that) The M5 pulls away
immediately.
By 100, 2.5 car lengths. By a few seconds later, he is aleady doing 4 car
lengths. (I'm at like 125)
So, I don't know what the purpose of this race was, but I did find out
that I am markably slower than the other car! (I have a 104hp disadvantage).
Then again, I can say that I ran an M5.
I wonder how the XJR would have done?

I raced a 2004 M3 Convertible driven by my friend. Of course I lost b/c right when I jumped on the gas, restricted performance came on and the transmission upshifted.
I guessing a M3 convertible will kill a non-S/C X308, BUT IF the m3 is manual and the driver sucks at shifting, then MAYBE a X308 could keep up.

bmw m5 versus jaguar xjr - YouTube
It was said that BMW would NOT release the M5 in E39 form but the X308 XJR made them do so.
When the E39 M5 was released I had extensive experience of the one Jaguar bought for benchmarking (LHD).
It's quite a different animal. Its cheaper and easier to make the XJR faster
