XJ trunk will not open

XJ trunk will not open
I cannot lift my trunk lid to an open position even though I can hear the actuator engaging when using either the FOB, the release button within the car, or the rear button on the trunk. I even attempted to use my key to open the trunk.
It does appear the trunk releases very slightly; yet, I cannot open/lift it. I can push down on it and then have the actuator lock it tightly again. After attempting (activating the actuator) to open it, I do receive the message on the dash alerting me the trunk is open although I cannot lift the lid.
My guess would be the internal latch itself. This raises the question: how do I get into the trunk since it will not open? Do I somehow remove the rear seat and then will have access to the trunk?
Assistance/Advice is appreciated.

Should this be the solution, I am going to have to drill at that location because after a 1/2 inch in, the screwdriver encounters a metal sheet. Also saw some posts where one measures & drills a hole I believe around the center area behind the license plate. Will check the manual, call the dealer, and then give something a try.

Vector, you mentioned I put my request for assistance (regarding my trunk which will not open) into the wrong forum; yet, you did not inform me as to where I am supposed to put which I will. I put it under Jaguar XJ; but, if there is something more specifically related to the trunk then I am all ears. Thanks.

The Jaguar XJ sedan was originally introduced in the late 1960s. It has run continuously since then as updated models.

Try that forum and you will get better results.

I suggested you put it in the X350 forum, see above. The 350 is, other than the look, a completely different car than a 308, so our advice here won't work for you, that is why you are hitting a metal plate that is not there on a 308.
