Xj40 limited slip diff into xjr 308?
I had a scare last year when one of the abs sensors got dirty, it knocked out the trac/abs/asc just as I booted the car out of a corner, not funny. Drove the car home shaking :-|
Found it was the rear off side and cleaned it, no probs since.
But, don't want it to happen again, so need a proper limited slip diff. This is a serious weak link in an otherwise supercar. Why jaguar rely on electronics in this respect I will never know, having fitted LSD's to virtually all XJ's up to the 300/308.
Quaife are now offering a geared unit for around ?8-900 ($1500) that I could fit. But, I've heard of XJ40 PWRLOC diffs being fitted. I can get hold of these diffs no problem.
I'd like to go 3.77 so it goes like a dragster off the line. It's running a 3.54 as standard.
Has anyone fitted an XJ40 LSD to their XJ/XK? Do they need spacers shims? is it a completely different shape? Do I install the internals only?
Let me know what the job entails - if not, I'll update this thread with my findings when time allows - it should be an important one.

AFAIK the rear suspension on the XJ40 and the X300 was virtually the same, but the X308 was completely different, so an LS diff off an XJ40 may not fit. Only somebody who has already done this swap-out can tell you. If you can get access to the component layout drawings, (used for spares listings), you can probably see if it looks feasible or not.
