xj8 2000 driver seat motor works intermittently

There is an intermittent driver power seat malfunction, where the front-most seat located switch, on the edge of the seat (for up and down, forward and back motion) ceases to work. The headrest switch and lumbar switch continue to work. Merely disconnecting the power to the seat and restoring 12V power fixes this for awhile. After a varying number of days, it stops working again, same scenario. I am assuming the power module under the seat is being reset by disconnecting/reconnecting power; should I begin by replacing the module? it seems unlikely to be the bosch-style relay located under the seat malfunctioning. Thanks .

Those seats are notorious for 'frayed wiring' underneath, so get the seat out and have a good look. I understand damaged wiring under there can also cause the airbag light to indicate a malfunction. Any plugs and sockets also warrant attention. I'd put the control module at the bottom of the list of likely causes. Good luck.

thanks. I looked carefully at all components when the seat was out of the car. No frayed wiring, and the connectors are all clean, and neat.No obvios signs of trauma. A short, or open circuit would typically not respond immediately and every time to a brief disconnect/reconnect of the 12 volt power supply, so that is why I think there must be something in the module acting like a circuit breaker. I was wondering if anyone had had a similar problem. thanks, m weiss

thanks. I have an extra module. I have changed out the switch already, without any success, so the switch is not the problem. I intend to switch the module, but was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem, and had troubleshot it in a different way.Its an irritant, because it is so intermittent; it takes awhile to see if the problem remains after each intervention. thanks - mweiss
