My wife came home and parked the car, I then saw that the backup lights were on even with the key off and with it in park. I removed the bulbs and thought that was the end of it, but now when you leave it for a day or two the battery goes dead. There is a draw on the battery with the key off and I thought it may be connected with the backup light problem. I thought it might be the rotary switch on the trans. or what ever it sends the signal to(ie. relay or computer) need help.

The problem is most like a grounded a stuck relay in the boot fuse box. I would put the bulbs back in and make sure that the lights are lit and then remove one at a time the relays until the lights are out. The to verify that is the problem switch that relay with an identical one and make sure the lights are working correctly.
The other possibility is that the micro switch in the shift mechanism is stuck in the engaged position but with the bulbs out I wouldn't think it would still draw power.
