Default XJ8 Code P1647

Hi guys. I'm having a problem with my 2004 XJ8 4.2L. My check engine came on today and I scanned with the obd and that's the code, P1647. I want to know which sensor is the one that have to be replaced, upstream or downstream. I already know that is Bank 2 but, is left or right? Driver side or passenger side?
I know all this in my 2003 X Type but in this "new" cat is everything new to me.

Bank 2 is on the left side, viewed from inside the car. Drivers side is dependent on whether you have RHD or LHD. I am not 100% positive, but that code is usually for the upstream sensor.

That's correct, it's on the left hand side of the car, and it is a bit of a bitch to get to since you need to remove the coolant expansion tank, some valve sort of thing, and an exhaust heatshield. I wrote up a webpage on how to do it which you can find here:

Good luck!

Thanks guys. I'm in Miami, USA, so left side is the same as driver side front inside the car, right side standing outside, facing the car, right? It sounds like a little bit more complicated that what I thought. In the X-type is not that complicated. I'm going to inspect the possibility of doing it by myself, if not, I'll ended going to my regular mechanic.

Left side of the car as you're looking out the windscreen! Yes, driver's side for you!
If you've got 4 hours free, and it's not raining (easier for you than me!), then it's not too hard.

Sorry, the link in my previous post was faulty. Try this:

Thanks Talulah, that going to help me a lot. I just bought the oxygen sensor, Denso 234-9030, before catalytic converter, 4 wires. Is the correct one by Auto Parts Warehouse. They have Bosh and Walker also, but im going with Denso.
I'm curious about a "Hard Reset". I'm been reading about that, saying to do that to the car. What's it? How you do a "Hard Reset" to the ECM?

This sensor is a bit harder -- as the access is tight. Just take your time ... and spray the area around the sensor with some penetrating oil or other product to free it up. I had to spray mine a couple of times and wait a while -- you don't want to force it anymore than is required .. and it is tight.

Also take note of the wire routing -- lots of heat in that area ..don't want to have an issue after reassembly.

I have an inexpensive code reader -- with an old car you will need one and they codes are easily reset. Amazon sometimes has them for $35.00.

I've not come across the part number 234-9030 so can't advise you whether it's the correct one or not. The modern Denso sensors seem to use a code DOX-0xxx where xxx values of 428, 429, and 430 seem to be OK, differing only in wire length I think. The one I took off my car had 192400-3101 printed on it.

A hard reset is basically disconnecting the battery, and discharging the smoothing capacitors in all the ECUs by touching the battery leads (NOT TERMINALS!!!!) together for a few seconds. Before doing that make sure you have your radio code though!

Thanks. Now I'm having a P1646 in my X-type. But is coming and going. I reseted it days ago and it came back. I reseted it again and came back. I gave up and after like 3 days went away. Now, today, it came back again. I don't know if you know about X-type model but I think I have an electric gremlin in that sensor. I'm going to replace it. What you think?
