Xj8 front brakes beware (ebc)
Okay, so I've learned a lesson this week.
After reading several threads regarding EBC Rotors & Pads, I convinced myself this is what I needed. Researched EBC web site & found on O'Reilly web site. Went to store to order with part numbers in hand from EBC web site.
Ordered Rotor USR952(214.53) & Red Stuff Pads DP3689C(110.36). Since the store doesn't carry these they were special order (no big deal).
When I finally got around to installing them this week, the overall width of the new rotor and pads would not allow caliper to install over rotor by some .150 I've done enough rotor & pad replacements to know it's a snug fit, but this isn't even close.
Went to O'Reilly store had them pull in new calipers and pads. New caliper didn't open up enough to allow EBC pads (thought perhaps my piston wasn't retracting enough), however their average OEM pads were enough thinner to work.
At this point I'm going to install some upper end ceramic pads from Pep Boys, presuming they will fit, when I take all parts into store tomorrow to dry fit prior to purchasing.
If anyone is feeling froggy out there, I'll sell you the EBC pads for half price. O'Reilly won't talk returns since I brought in the part #, and the store can't access the on line parts listing.
At this point, I'm stuck with some really nice red paper weights.
PM me, if you're interested, and feeling lucky. Never a dull moment. I did swap out an outer tie rod end why cooling down though.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for your replies.
Disc thickness is 28mm or 1.113"
Diameter is 12" same as old one.
New pads mic out at 20.1mm or .790"
My caliper opening is approx. 2.538", if you do the math that's a shortage of some .155". As I mentioned, I checked a new caliper with same results.
Stopped at Pep Boys this morning, no joy there, their ceramic pads were just as thick overall as the EBC pads, still not allowing caliper with new pads installed to slip over rotor.
Only luck with pads has been a cheap ($24) set of organics from O'Reilly. Not thrilled if I end up using these.
I'm beginning to wonder if there is an aftermarket caliper with a slightly larger opening between piston face and opposite side of caliper. I've seen no fine print though requiring new calipers with this combination. Got me stumped.
I did get a tech number for EBC, and plan on calling in the morning.

I bought some "gloss" engine paint once at O'Rielly and it was as dull as primer. I took it back and it happened that the district sales manager was there and I explained it to him.
He said he couldn't offer a refund as the paint can was used. I told him the car was in the parking lot and I'd show him the dullness and asked him how the customer would find out without without using it. He was later replaced.
So I phoned the O'Rielly site customer service and they gave me a refund no problem, so I'd try and do the same and maybe you'll have luck.
Another time they forgot to place an order for an engine I paid rush charges on to avoid renting a car. A week later they hadn't even placed the order.
Again, I phoned customer service online and they issued me a check (about $250) to cover the rental.
One of the hard lessons of life is that the only reason you are working today is because you don't know how to ask for things. Everything is free if you know how to ask for it.

plums: You are correct! Please remove this thread to free up space for more important topics and to save me from more humiliation. The crow for dinner was disgusting.
Apparently in a haze of cigar smoke and between sips of bourbon the night I looked up these part numbers on EBC web site, I dropped the /2 from the DP3689/2C for our Jaguars and chased down a DP3689C for BMW drivers. They must have poorer braking habits requiring the extra thick pads, as compared to the much more skilled drivers of Jaguars. I did obtain the correct pads from Pep Boys and will install shortly. At least I've already got a Christmas present for some lucky BMW driver. My apologies for wasting everyones time.
