Default XJ8 Fuel Pump Failure or ECM?

Good Evening,


I am troubleshooting if I have a bad fuel pump or ECM. The car was running fine before turning off. I tried to start about five minutes later and the engine started then Engine Stalled indicator came on dash. I tried with pedal to floor and it would not start. kept trying but no luck. Removed fuel pump relay and replace with another relay. Pressure is 0 coming from fuel rail. Also driver and passenger seat heater and rear defroster is not coming on. all was working prior to engine stalling.

fuel pump is more likely than ecm

figure out with the owners manual, electrical diagrams, and the electrical diagrams from
downloads in the forum stickies which pin at the trunk fusebox leads to the fuel pump at
the tank. jumper 12V to that pin momentarily. if the pump is functioning you will hear a
faint whir. if there is nothing, the pump is dead. the test is definitiive.

if you jumper power to the pump, and the car starts normally, then it might be the
relay, or relay fuse.

Good Afternoon Plums,


Appreciate the quick response, I removed the fuel pump relay and inserted a paper clip on pins 30 and 87 with ignition key both on and off and no sound from pump. I did hear the relay click when turning key on and off no pump sound. have you changed this part before? Is there more parts involved in replacing besides the pump itself? seals? wire harnesses? Please advise.

i prefer jumping power from the battery stud at the corner of the fuse box
because it eliminates the fuse as a factor.

pump, filter sock and external filter.

i would not bother with the special link. if it is burnt, replace with ordinary wire
having the proper teflon insulation.

Good Evening Plums,

I attempted to jump the fuel pump by using the positive stud on battery box, no sparks or sound from pump.

The front seat heaters and rear defrost buttons are not lighting up also are not turning on or the led

Do these only work when the car is running?

Please assist.

Going back to your first post, if you hold the pedal to the floor you shut off the fuel to the injectors.

The fans and dash lights sound like a blown fuse, not related to the fuel pump problem.
