Default XJ8 LS Swap Project

Starting this thread on my project. I’ll post regular updates.

This is the project car. 2002 XJ8 with a clean title and shot tranny. Sold the engine and cats for $1000 more than I paid for this car.

2001 XJR parts car. Bought for interior and wheels. May also switch some suspension parts. Already parted out on EBay several things for a few hundred. Engine and tranny for sale. (Car is also in Marketplace.). If I get what I’m asking for engine and tranny, I’ll be ahead.

2011 Chevy Camaro with 6.2L L99 and 6L80 automatic transmission. Parting out everything else.

What transmission and differential are you going with?

Also, what’re your hp goals with the LS?

I seem to remember another member with a X308 LS project a number of years ago but, I believe that went unfinished.

I’m sure you’ll figure it out but, I seem to recall an issue with the oil pan clearance situation. Perhaps keep in mind a dry sump.

Good luck with the project!!

Camaro AT 6L80. Jag differential.

Stock hp is 403. Could easily get another 60 with a hotter cam without changing converter. L99 is a LS3 with Active Fuel Management. Changing cam requires switching out AFM lifters and putting a limiter on the VVT. Hard to put more than 400 hp on the ground with the tires we have, so no immediate plans.

I seem to remember another member with a X308 LS project a number of years ago but, I believe that went unfinished. I’m using the Jaguar Specialties kit, so manual and no fabrication.

Stock oil pan way too big. Kit came with GTO oil pan. Some cutting and required to make it fit.

Good luck with the project!!
Thanks. It will be a journey.

Are those donkeys in the picture?

Thanks, built a guest house/garage/barn a few years back. Wife’s hobby animals, mine cars. Always wanted a lift. It make wrenching a lot easier.
Yes, miniature donkeys. Fully grown about 250 lbs. Also have 2 horses, 2 goats and 20 chicken. Used to have pigs, but gave them away.

The nuts and bolts engineering seems like a fun project. I’m very interested in how you integrate the engine and transmission control units into the cars CANbus. I’ll be following. Good luck!

Engine and tranny out of Camaro. Normal method is to drop subframe and take out the bottom. Car was wrecked so cut the front.

Vary ambitious project, however it looks as though you have the tools to complete it.

Motor mount and Transmission mount. Motor mount goes to another part that bolts to Jag. Transmission mount bolts to original transmission support.

GTO oil pan cut to fit. Angled piece of aluminum will be welded in.

Default Coolant and fuel lines

Hooked up coolant lines to reservoir and heater. Jaguar electric water pump not required.

Uses ‘99 Corvette fuel filter because it has an internal regulator. Would rather have shorter run from filter to engine but could only find male/male metal connector in 12 inch length.

It looks like it is coming together well. I remember some of my engine swap projects,
and not all of them went so well.

Are you going to have a functional heater? I’m not even going to ask about A/C because you’re in Florida like I am. That’s one of those dumb questions.

Heater all hooked up. Uses Jaguar valve. No need for Jag electric pump because plenty of flow from LS water pump.
Will have A/C. Uses all Jag parts except for compressor. Looks like I’m going to have to mount a compressor high on engine because current location blocks dip stick because required GTO pan has a front sump.

Seems the plumbing is a huge obstacle with this project. Power steering, coolant, refrigerant, automatic transmission fluid cooler, air intake and exhaust. That’s a tall order. Keep it up.
