XJ8 nearly fires up!!!! Grrrrrrr RESOLVED
#221
Well Here we are
I now have a fully running Jaguar again, actually better than it was before
I sure have had a steep learning curve
Thank you all so much for the help and support it has been a long journey.
In the end, I believe the fault was a stuck butterfly because it was 1 month from parking then tried to start the next day then went on to finding the faulty pump to ordering and arrival and fitting it
so the sticky stuff that was around the butterfly dried out and it was stuck causing the flooding
because you can't see down the barrel without removing the supply air duct you don't know and using the Foxwell reader it will measure the throttle body even if the cable is not actuating the butterfly.
But it was good to check the cam and replace the tensioner, plus the compression is nearly equal on all cylinders, the FPR need replacing maybe caused by the pump going caput.
so here is the start uplink sorry my iPhone when holding straight records sideways but it's ok.
the only time I have enjoyed blue smoke
Thank you I have sent some and the rest are listed below thanks to all great to have support here down under Dutchy

so I've got lots of bits now and some cool expensive tools
maybe I should patent my spark tester ha haaaaa
I will enjoy being part of the Jag Forum thanks for putting up with me and my questions.
onward

This is awesome news Dutchy, so glad to hear this. Unfortunately your issue could have been any of what was suggested, I know you are quite more knowledgeable for it and have the tools to effectively go after any possible future issues.
So now lets discuss all that smoke?!

Thanks for your perseverance and hard work. This problem is something to keep in mind if I think about buying an XK8 that has been sitting for a long time.
This same thing afflicted my Mark VII. The throttle shaft and butterfly looked like it was stuck with mucilage. Unfortunately there are other problems still affecting that car.

So took it for a good rap 5-6000 in second sure cleaned out the oil
then as I turned around and drove slowly back it dropped to 500 rpm no acceleration no limp mode no restricted performance display only battery not charging
before I idled back to home it cut out.
so what the heck give it another crank and she fired up straight away, and returned back to normal
second trip same thing so as much as she runs it drops back to 500 rpm only
next trip I will drive at 60klm and see what happens

Just a thought, I'm sure there are others far more knowlegeable than me, but maybe a hard reset would be an idea - the battery must have taken a bit of a bettering while you have been trying to make it start. In any event, it can't so any harm providing you have a record of the radio code if it's needed in Australia.

yes could be
I will check that I have not knocked the pugs on the back of alternator with all the pulling of the harness out of the way lately it was moved a lot below the intake air box
from there I will remove it and I can load (amp) test it on my work bench
let's hope because of the charging and jumper leads that nothing has happened
a hard reset would not hurt.
