1998 lwb xj8, is it normal to have 2/3 mm movement at the wheel in the 12/6 oclock plane?
this is the same for both wheels yet there is no movement in the 9/3 oclock plane, im asking because the car is due for its annual MOT test and im wondering if this would be a pass or fail?

Ricasso....this is borderline in the 12/6 position as this indicates wear in either the wheel bearings or the diff output bearings and is more likely to be the latter as these are subject to a lot of torque.
Factory acceptance is 0.5-1.5mm.
9/3 movement will usuall y give you wear in the outer bottom fulcrum bearings and in extreme cases, the inner fulrum bushes.
UJ's you have to measure sepeartely by clamping one and twisting the other.
Cheers,
Maximus
