Default XJ8 Speaker specs? recommended upgrades?

Has anyone got the specs' on these, preferably Alpine, but the Harmon Kardon (Phillips) speakers will help also in this thread.

for example, peak/rms power, frequency response, sensitivity.

Reason I ask, a future update would be to refresh the door speakers, I've a premium system with sub and amp, but might go so far as to switch these out also.

Anyone upgraded their system speakers? any recommendations? Any Problems?

Sean, here are a few links for door speakers; direct replacements and almost so.
I wouldn't say it was difficult, mostly plug&play.

Default Speaker project

Just about to embark on this myself - Sean B i am also from sunny southport though now living in houston texas - I have the standard speakers in my 98 xj8 they are more or less standard 6.5inch speakers. they have 4 screw holes on the diagonals . They have foam padding at the front so they're not flush really with the door card. They're 2.5" in depth - many 6.5 are 2" so depth for once this should not be a problem. They're 4 ohm.

Basically any 6.5inch with the multi screw holes should fit - it does look like foam padding on them at the front will be needed but thats fairly easy to jury rig. All my 6.5inchs have gone in my car but there's a lot of door card shinanigans to sort out before i replace them (naming getting all the clips!) - the tweeters still work well so I'm steering well clear of changing them.

I'll post what speakers I get and how I get on. I'm not looking to go high end just ones that arnt cardboard like the jag originals. Any butyl, polypropylene speaker will make a massive difference.

Does anyone out there know the jag colour coding on the wiring for positive and negative? I figured I'd cut and splice the connectors rather than get these:

Speaker Harnesses Speaker adapter plugs for select 1989-up Jaguar, Porsche, Saturn, VW, and Volvo at Crutchfield.com

though they do make life a lot easier.

Anyone change out the grills while replacing the speakers? My stock grills are cracked and I am wondering if I might go with a speaker whose grills would make a suitable replacement, all other specs being sufficient. Polk, for example, makes a 6.5 with a tasteful grill (DXI650).

Is major plastic surgery required to change the grills?

Default grills

they're clipped grills (2 clips i think) and are pretty easy to pop out when you have the door card off - not sure you could get the grill out of the chrome frame to put a new one in. i reckon it'd be tricky. second hand grills can be had on ebay.
