Default XJR 100 snag list after reshell.....

It's alive, I'm relatively happy about it too. Some little snags that I'm trying to work through.

1. Wiper motor not working, its connected to loom, not tried a meter on it yet, but will.
2. Headlamps don't work, but running lights do.
3. Er displayed and beeps on the climate control switchpack, but it works the fans and heater.

After 3 months of hard graft in the path, not under cover, between rain showers, its been a really tough job. I'm more used to working in relative comfort rebuilding E-types, XK's and Mark II's. This thing has been a journey.

Any pointers or suggestions most welcome.

Looking good there Sean, I like your alloy centre caps-I may have to copy you!!
If you need any help at any time drop me a line and I may be able to help out as I'm not far down the road.
I look forward to seeing this around town, S.

Thanks for the compliment Stu, you probably will, if I could drive it upstairs I would! I'll give you a go in it once on the road.

The red centre caps came with the 19" BBS Montreal wheels on the XJR 100. EuroJag do them used for £40, they're more than that each from the main agent!

Update on the snag list,

got the wipers to work, dirty connection, same on the headlamps, and the climate issue may be the air con, because its not charged with refrigerant.

Just a few things like bleed the brake system now, and off for its custom paint job.

Then it's fit and finish, and away for the winter in her cosy nest.

You think you're in the Itallian Job!! LOL

Anyway-I may be tempted by a set of Reds being that it's my fave colour!! My current ones are grey which match my Platnium body nicely but are sadly starting to show their age a little

This custom paint job sounds interesting, tell me more!! Who is doing it? I had terrible trouble trying to find someone in Southport to paint my Triumph Herald, all I got was silly quotes! Hence why it is still in the garage, naked However a friend of my Dad's friend is going to do it for me at a reasonable price.

I'd love to have ago when it's on the road, It'd be like a brand new one I imagine? Something I've always wondered about!! (Even if it's round Tescos car park at 4:30 on a Sunday!! LOL)

Paint is going to be the same colour, anthracite, I was toying with the idea of ultimate black, but it's too shiney - a scottish friend said the original colour was a "proper man's black", plus I'd like to keep it reasonably original, (not for resale, as it will never be sold....)
@Stu...
The guy painting it's shop is called PaintWorX, he's young keen and fast, if you look in my garage on here, you'll see him painting the underneath of the shell.

The custom bit is the clearcoat, I spoke to a guy about a dry pearl that doesn't come alive until bright sunlight hits it,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OP28S_QAdLs

not made a final decision on it yet, he's going to paint the fuel filler lid to have a play and see if its subtle or too in your face, might still just go standard, but finish between coats to 2500 grade, you do know the more time spent levelling the body, the better the final appearance. We've talked of at least 40 hours on levelling.
By the way, this car will never see a car park, it'll never be left on its own as I've had cars produce uncontrolled fits of jealousy from saddo's that lack ability. And, it'll be far better than new!

I think I've seen his sign somewhere on my travels, I may have some touch up work for him to do on my XJ seeing as there are little bits here and there that need attention and my front LH Wing and door need repainting after a bad repair done whilst the car was in previous owners hands!!!
40 hours!! Thats crazy!! But still after all the hard work you do want the best finish, which is what I'll want for my Herald also.

I agree tho, Saddos are an ongoing issue and it was one who put one of my main beams in not long after I got the car.

@Sean

Looks like the worst is over mate. Great to see it coming back together. They are just gorgeous cars. The only thing I would maybe change if I was lucky enough to have one would be the wood..... I'm not a big fan of the grey wood that came as standard on the 100s. I would imagine its pretty easy to find a complete wood set from a breakers yard these days.... I've also seen a guy who painted his wood piano black and that looked pretty nice (Can't find the pic right now though)

Great job Sean, like you say, some journey. Hat's off for doing this in the drive, most folk would not even attempt this in a fully equiped garage. Let alone outside in the Northwest.

Very interesting project -- I did a bunch of Triumphs (4A's mostly and a few 250's and 6's) back in my youth as well as a few others ......... One Mercedes convinced me I better stick to the simple ones!!

I take my hat off to you.

Tell me ......what year is the shell -- did you completely strip it? And what had happened to the original 02 ?

I see in your description -- the 100 was in a flood ....... What is the red one next to it with fender turn signals.

My 95 VDP had the fender lights and I wish Jaguar did not do away with them - alway wondered it it was possible to retrofit them -- the crazy BCM always kept me from even trying it.

@ SARC, I totally agree, I bought a full set of wood on ebay and its flatted off ready to paint body colour, which is obviously black. I've had a sticker made the same as the 100's that fits on the passenger air-bag.

The original wood is stored just in case I want to put it back to standard. A nice tweak is a machine turned ski slope, a bit like the late model XKR's and 3.8 E-Types.

@Yeldogt, the bodyshell is brand new from Jaguar cars Ltd. My father is ex Jaguar so chased it up.
The red car is a MY2002 XJR that was used an an electronic donor, the only way possible to do this project, and it's helped immensely.
They aren't lights in the fender, just reflectors, but you can piggyback a light from the front turn signal harness. The original shell has gone, along with a lot of parts, so new and low miles parts have replaced it, I don't even want to look at the shoebox full of invoices, I'm on first name terms with the parts manager at Jaguar dealers....
I've completely stripped two 02' cars, the original and red car, and rebuilt the 100 into the new shell with many upgrades.
The original was in a surprisingly bad state, 8 years old and salt roads didn't help it. Rust underneath was terrible. I suspect most UK higher mileage XJ's will be in a similar state, the only way to keep them in good order underneath is lying on your back with wire brush and shutz/stonechip it, digging out the rusty spots, dirty heavy maintenance - they're big cars!

I'm really looking foward to the final fit and finish now, I've done plenty of work on the trim. I'll update the thread as I go along....
