After reading the workshop manual how to replace piston rings in the XJR, I know now well that I am not able to do it by myself. I now can understad the concerns of you both, FactoryJaguarTech as well as jag-genius. May be an alternative:

I read about an engine oil, called AMETECH-ENGINE-RESTORE-OIL

Can this oil help to cure my engine problem?
Can it harm the NIKASIL coated bores?

Neither of the two Jaguar workshops in Johannesburg have yet given me a repy to my inquiry!

Thank you FJT for your support. Much to my regret no news yet. I did receive no quotation yet from 2 Jaguar workshops in Johannesburg. It is not easy here in South Africa. But as soon as I have any news, I will be glad to inform you immediately.

By, thank you again

I don´t come forward very fast with my faulty engine. Your suggestion to send the car inspires me to invite you to come here to South Africa and we will do the job tgether! Is´nt this a good idea, FJT?

Yesterday I found a local general car workshop, who´s owner claimes to be Jaguer expert. He will provide me with a quote for the replacement of piston ring (or rings on all 8 pistons). If you can, pleasemake me an offer for a set of rings plus the required gaskets. Thank you so far for your engagement in my problem.

lol....>Ernest. I just ran that past my wife, and I don't need to tell you how that went.

You may want to get in contact with ken on this forums. He can provide you with all the gaskets you need. I am not sure if he can get the piston rings. If he cannot help you out, let me know and I will help you to find what you need.

Hi FJT
It might be boring for you as an expert when things have no progress but I did not come further with my misfiring engine. I received some quotations for a replacement of all rings. One of the local workshops recommanded using carbonfiber rings. I have never heard about those rings before. Have you any experience with? By the way my engine is most probably not nikasil threated but replaced by conventional sleeves. This became evident when I followed one of the letters of your forum saying, if a green metal batch is fixed on the engine body than it is no nikasil.
Once again, I should purchase my rings and all other necessary parts in the US or in GB because in South Africa they request any price. If you could help me wih good advice!?

Best regards

Ernest
