XJR Cooling Fan Operation/Failure

XJR Cooling Fan Operation/Failure
Hi all,
The right hand (upper) cooling fan has just stopped working. It runs on the low speed but I've just noticed that only the lower fan runs at the high speed. The upper (RH) fan just stops when they go on high speed.
It isn't causing an overheat but I need to get to the bottom of it! This week I ordered a replacement fan and replaced it, but to no success - (although this is a used fan, so I can't rule it out) . I have read many threads on the 1995 XJ cooling fan issues, but haven't had luck finding X308 ones.
Why would the upper fan stop on the high speed? Is this a fault with the harness, fuses, relays?
Thanks very much,
Ian

There are two relays associated with the two fans. On low speed the fans run in series with each using half of the available 12 volts. On high speed each fan is fed 12 volts. It would appear that one of your relays or associated wiring has failed. The relays are located near the bottom of the radiator.
